I've about talked myself into a xmas present of a Simpson Capstan Winch with the Honda motor.
I can't really justify a Farmi type winch but I can think of other things I'll be able to use the Simpson winch for. My last electric winch was painfully slow and hard on batteries when used a lot in a short period.

Anybody want to add anything regarding them, I'm listening.
Tips, tricks, things to do with them, etc...
Not only firewooding. I'm going to have to explain this one after just getting the new saw.<laughing>

They will handle a decent sized load. This is from the Portable Winch Company. I found it to come in handy around the woodlot.
Will need some accessories like a choker, caribiners, blocks and rope to get the most use out of it.

It took me a few months to “think about it” but today the brown truck brought me a toy I’ve wanted for years.
This is the portable winch PCW3000

I used a hydraulic capstan winch in a past life building cell towers and liked the speed/versatility and things that could be done with one.
This one being self contained makes it good for me to pull logs out in my back corner where a brook and mud and swamp will swallow my tractors. Well, that’s what I told her majesty anyway.
Also to be tasked in lifting some pieces of my 20x30 addition on my shop.
Oh yeah. And pulling free firewood closer to the truck to load to bring home!

As I approach 60, it seems like things are getting heavier. I hope this offsets that gradual gravity increase that’s seems to be going on in my immediate area….

Lenny, Curious now that you've had the pcw3000 for a while what your opinion is. I'm researching these currently. I only burn for me personally but finding wood is not near as easy as it was just a few years ago. This makes me think it'll take a lot of the harder work out of it by getting it closer to the road or truck. Thank you.

I confess that it’s sitting on the bench still. I’ll use it this weekend and report back.
