It's not often that I need to choke back tears. Today was one of those times. I had the opportunity to visit the traveling Vietnam Wall Memorial. It was on display one town over. The wall is 3/4 scale of the memorial in DC. There other era displays. For any not able to visit the traveling or DC memorials, these are for you. God bless those, and their families, and thank you for your service
thanks, great pictures ,i know we have a few members here that were there and thankfully came back ,thanks to you all
I'm really glad my brothers name is not on that wall, he came home.... Sure beats me saying on this post that my brothers name is on the wall instead of me and him going camping together last month. God bless those that served and died for our country.
I worked with a sailor who served about 25 years. He did two tours in the river boats. He was older than most of the guys, and had served i the Korean War as well. He had a different perspective, as an older salt who could process his experience dfferently than the 18-19 year olds. He cussed The Wall. Said your are going to have guys dressing in cammo amd going to that wall the rest of their lives, and not putting it behind them. His view is a legitimate one- he paid his membership fee. His comment to me about it was back in the late 80's so the wall was fairly new then. Seems to have been a good prediction. I have visited it a few times in DC. certainly is a sobering thing, and impacted how memorials are done ever since. Add the names- so they are never forgotten. The law enforcement and firefighter memorials, and many others have similar themes. The young lady who designed it, changed a part of American culture. Sgt. Herndon Bivens. The name on my POW MIA bracelet I got during the war. His name is on the wal. I pay a visit when i am there.
The architects that did the one in DC did an amazing job. You're in one of the busiest cities in the world and when you walk down that wall it's quiet still and almost reverent.
