I have one gutter/ downspout that is not routed underground and just dumps onto the driveway causing quite the sinkhole.

As my front yard is a mess right now and about to be seeded, I want to address this issue now.

I was planning on just going downspout --> 4" corrugated buried for about 20' --> 10-20' of perforated 4" (wrapped in fabric/ gravel) into a poor man's drywell (something like a 2'x2'x2' gravel bed that is buried and wrapped.)

    Is this adequate?
Is there a better way that isn't super time consuming/ expensive?
Is the drywell even going to work as described?

I am doing this the old fashioned way with a shovel. I don't want to overdo it but I want it also to work.

This Old House had a short video with Roger installing a drywell.

Leaves and debris would be my biggest concern causing issues down the road.

I have 3 downspouts that I want to re-route away from the house. They will go into 4" on a slight down hill pitch to daylight though. I might install a stone splash area or surface bird bath at the end.

Have Rainhandler gutters for 20 years. They 'filter' the rain with louvers spreading the water out on the ground.
They have held up well with heavy ice, snow, and storms.
Hate gutters and down spouts: cleaning, clogging, PITA.

There’s always the pop ups option D075A0CD-62AE-4370-8CC7-B6B21FB47E29.jpeg 206CC030-C9BA-4D0B-9DFF-BC5795A3158F.jpeg

That would be a good solution for my yard instead of a drain to daylight that I would have to mow around.

I really like it, works pretty good. Can mow right over it & pull the whole thing off a couple times a year to clean leaves out

Does frozen water cause issues with it? I have some reading to do on these.

I’ve got a few of those and they froze the first winter. What I did in the spring was take out the elbow, put some pea gravel underneath it, then drilled a small hole (about 1/4”) in the bottom of the elbow. Any water that sits in the pipe slowly drains out. I’ll remove the pop up a few times a year, take the leaves out and stick a screwdriver in the hole to make sure the drain hole is clean.

Not sure if that is the right way to handle the problem, but it worked for me.

I actually bought one, but since I had to get drainage beneath front walkway, I had to go too deep which in my brain said the popup wasn't the solution.

I did the poor man's drywell. Time will tell if I did ok.
