I was inspired by the other thread about a member getting a ZTR mower. So everyone feel free to post up what they got and how much you have to cut. I have about 3/4 of an acre. My dad actually gave me this as a housewarming gift when I got my house 2 years ago. He bought it at an equipment auction where the highway authority auctions their stuff to the public. Knowing my dad he got it for next to nothing. He did a little work to the hydros and it works great. It's totally overkill for my lawn but it's awesome come time for for leaf pickup. I just cut the grass and let it lay. It's got a Kubota diesel engine which just sips gas. Needs new seat but the oem one costs over 300 so no thanks. Total length is about 10 feet long. Here she is.
My lawn mower sans mower deck. We also recently picked up a used Snapper push mower. Each year, we have less lawn to mow and more garden to tend, thanks to my loving wife. Pretty soon, I'll keep the mower deck off the JD since we'll be fine with the push mower.
We have ours done 60.00 a whack for about an acre. Best thing we ever did! Yard looks a lot better, my back thanks me for it, and I have more time to play! Gary
It takes a whole lot of "Jackson's" or "Tubman's" to pay for the mower and the time it takes for mowing. Once you get to be a "crotchety old man" you get to choose when to spend your $'s and when to pay they neighbor kid!!!!
Posted a bit ago. Mrs Mike using the new Scag 48in. Replace a 48 in Ransomse Bobcat belt drive. At abt 19 yrs or so and the deck rotting out, 1200 for new deck and then I would need to move everything...... Went the easy way. Mows about 15k sq ft of the acre we have.
I've got a 50" Dixie Chopper, I have a 1 acre yard with about 20 trees/obstacles to go around and it takes me 45 minutes, which includes going over the front yard twice because the grass grows so fast every week it clumps and needs 2 passes. I used to have a 25 year old Kubota 60" front deck like golf courses use. It took me an hour on that but the deck fell apart and a new deck was $4000! I do miss the diesel engine and having a steering wheel, it's pretty much impossible to drink a beer on my ZTR and the moles have made sure that anything in the cup holder gets shook up. This is the only pic of it and the one and only time my wife's been on it. She told me if I had bought something with a steering wheel she'd mow. I wish I had known that when I bought it, because I absolutely hate mowing, but we had only been dating a month when I picked it up. I might have tried harder to just get a used deck for that Kubota then, it was nice only using 10 gallons of diesel for the entire summer. The Dixie Chopper gulps gasoline!
That's a nice Dixie chopper. Once you get used to not having a steering wheel you never want to go back.
Landscaper here so it's not a fare example. My personal yard is only .66 acres. I probably mow 25 acres a week though. I have a few mowers but my two favorite 61" mowers:
