Loaded up the porch today, on to covering some windows with plastic. Empty: Loading the truck from our stacking area: Mostly Oak on the right, with Ash and Walnut on the left. Unloading ( no I didn't hit the post): Load 1: Load 2: 3rd and final load: And a little passenger, a jumping spider: . No wood inside the bin yet, have to wait until the cold gets here. One final pic of the new to me (in Aug) wood hauler, needed space to fit the baby so I had to sell the s10. I did notice lots of wood dust, doesn't appear to be much damage though.
Good to get it done! We are still bring in wood from outside-- we have about a cord sitting out there yet. When the weather gets bad enough we will start taking from the basement instead. Its nice not having to fight the drifts come winter.
I love your car and porch, very convenient! Around here Mr Tax will be leaving large bills in your postbox for a car like that. But during my trip to Montana a few years ago it became very clear that these cars are no luxury.

Yes, his oak, ash and walnut make a nice combination. But I'd probably not burn any oak until January.
I loaded the truck with the ash/walnut first, oak last. That way unloading it, the oak is on the bottom and ash/walnut on top, goes in the stove first. (I bet I was a sight trying to figure that all out at 9 this morning.) I also have some maple not far behind it that is just getting covered. Its about 20' away from the pass through and I just cant talk myself into moving it under the porch. The stuff under the porch was located a couple hundred feet...
Looks great, nice to have a porch to stack on, I keep about a face cord at a time in the basement and get an interesting bug or two every winter.
Found this one at the end of last season: Locust Borer? Needless to say, living in a log home, I get a little paranoid.
No idea on the bug, but if it was found near the stacks of wood I'd be worried too. tuneighty , I like the pics of the wood being stacked on your porch. Talk about convenience and a dry place to store it. I do the same thing on my covered screen porch at the back of the house. I cover the screen panels with clear plastic and I can stack close to 3 cords on the porch.

More BTU's than the Ash, walnut and almost any other wood in the stack. In the end, it boils down to "burn what ya got."
Nice looking wood stacks you have there. I like your log home! I like the look of those huge squared off logs. They use a lot of "d" logs around my area for new construction log homes, but I prefer the logs like yours with the chinking. I see you have a new metal roof? Like it?
