Neither one in particularly good shape right now Time to head back to the cellar from the garage It’s unfinished and I’m starting to shop a heat source for this corner, just for occupancy at the bench. Any help on electrics ?
May the force be with you. I have an electric radiant heater you can have. Long term you probably want something else. Short term - plug and heat .
I have an old base board heater on a stand that sits on my bench to warm me and my tools up and then a torpedo heater for the floor.
Thanks fellas torpedo won’t cut it in the cellar, and thank you for the offer Mike. I’ve done some research since posting and it seems to me there isn’t much in breakthrough technology since the early 70’s except style and price. probably going to go with a $30 oscillator and set up 5’ behind me for the season. See how that goes.
Have you thought of Infrared? It would take the chill off the metal tools and parts. Probably not the cheapest option though.
Have you ever considered one of those woodstove thingies? I hear they are fantastic and throw off a ton of heat.
I spent a lot of time in the basement at my last house. I made a 2" x 3" frame wall in a good-sized area to work. I believe I used strapping for the top and bottom plates and studs every 4'. Screwed the top plate to the underside of the joists, and wedges at the bottom. It was just a frame to hold some clear plastic walls up. I used a zip wall for the door. Rigid foam up above between joists to keep heat in. A small oscillating heater made it nice and warm compared to the rest of the basement. I also put up some of the roll bubble wrap along the walls and that helped immensely. Frames covered in plastic can be pre-made and screwed together. Store away in the off season. I saw no way of heating the whole basement, but a smaller work area, no problem.
when I built the house 20+ years ago I put a bulk head full foundation on both ends of the house, so I could put in a chimney on both sides. I could have something in the cellar, family room and master bed if I ever followed through. Won’t happen soon but prepared in case there’s a wild hair somewhere!
