I'm putting pen to paper on some pallet racks for the shop, I don't know the usable wall height off the top of my head. Basic set up so far but I'm not home to double check. Any words of wisdom in this area? Not sure if these prices are current, and its about a mile up the road plus they have forklifts. :)

I buy and plan pallet rack installations for big warehouses from time to time. Those prices are pretty decent especially if they are local.

How much weight are you looking to hold? If under 3k per level I'd go with 4" beams.

You may have to anchor the top as when you go so high it needs lateral support. Local codes and manufacturer specs dictate. Some municipalities won't allow you to anchor to the building structure for seismic concerns. Check local listings.

Make sure you anchor to the floor with the correct size redheads. Drill the hole so you can drive them flush with the floor if you ever move the rack...Easier than cutting them off and allows you to push the rack assembled to move it rather than taking it all down.
