I had something rattling/rolling around in my F150 for over a year. It sounded like a loose socket rolling around in an empty plastic tacklebox and it took me awhile to figure out where it was coming from. I wasn't originally sure if it was under the dash, in the steering column or under the seat. My son and I narrowed it down to being in the rear seat heat duct that runs under the driver seat. I used a small bore camera to have a look and when I first saw the source of the rattle I thought it was a AA battery that had rolled in there. After getting a better look my son corrected me. This duct work has a lot of twists and turns in it and the outlet is pretty small so it is pretty hard to even locate it with the camera and almost impossible to reach it even with the little flexible grabber. We tried to fish it out for a couple of hours last year but put it off during the cold winter months. You could sometimes stop it from rolling around if you got on the brakes or took off pretty good and it wedged itself in. It was a nice afternoon today, and after an hour or so, I was finally able to get the clamp claws on it and get it out
Well shoot. That was tough but now silent. I sometimes hear something rolling around but it always turns out to be acorns under the hood.
The things I have found in heater plenum’s. People get upset real quick when they think their hvac repair will be covered under warranty and it’s not cuz Jonny filled the dash vents with whatever he could find.
I have a 1/4" snap on ratchet extension, and 1 socket from a similar "find" in my brothers used aerostar van. Some mechanic was probably pretty ticked about losing those, but it was from the previous owner(s) as we found that before any work needed to be done to it while we owned it.
