Had a nasty line of storms come through this afternoon, tornado passed south of us though. But went outside to take my nephews on an adventure after the storm but heard a familiar sound... Chainsaw running and getting after some wood so decided to investigate and see if they needed help. Turned out a tulip poplar fell across the road. Told the man I would go get a "real saw" lol he was using some rinky old 14inch something. Brought out the 562xp and went to town. Dude thought I was crazy for wanting to burn poplar. Ummm last i checked it burns, and its free and 200ft from my driveway (white mailbox in background). So needless to say I have shoulder wood for the next few years squared away. So will handle this tomorrow and monday, then split and stack soon. The neighbor of mine then was proceeding to tell me how burning poplar will cause lots of creosote and what not. I guess I should have used it as a recruiting/teaching moment but he seemed like the kind of guy " I have been burning for..." so I just put my safety gear on and went back to work!
Good shoulder wood for sure, capetownkg. Yeah, guys like that probly wouldn't receive the message- sad as it may seem, but maybe he saw that you wore safety gear and that planted a seed... no wait, nah, he ain't gonna get it!!! You done gooder tho!
Funny you say that cause when I came out he was trying to make some cuts, so i started putting on my gear and said "oh man check you out mr professional". Yeah dont want to cut my leg off! Considering he had made two cuts and still hadn't taken the pressure off the tree correctly I asserted myself and told him to stand back while I at least get it in a safer manner to begin cutting.
All wood burns... keep telling my FIL that. So do a dare ask what the first best thing about storms would be?
You did a good thing there, capetown. I like how you handled the creosote remark- just let it fizzle out on its own. Maybe saved the guy from an injury too.
If you can see your mailbox, it don't get much better than that, Wonder what he'd say if you were burning pine
Did some more work on the tree today. Should have borrowed a smaller truck. Had to hand split the big rounds to load them up. Second load Sweating like crazy so went to my in laws and enjoyed an evening on the river
