Hi guys, first post in this room. I am running the Woodstock Ideal Steel hybrid for primary heating. I also have a 70's Franklin style stove that is sitting on my upstairs hearth mainly for decoration and the occasional open fire. There is an exhaust damper that I keep closed. The stove pipe goes into a masonry chimney that I keep swept. No insulation. Currently I just jam a handful of roxul insulation up the pipe from the inside of the stove. I leave an item in the stove to remind me the insulation is in there. Should I be doing more to seal this off? Any thoughts?
I wonder how much heat you are losing with it. Had a franklin a few decades ago. Heck you could replace it with an electric fireplace for $100 for ambiance.
