Contrary to popular belief, these do grow to a decent size and make great firewood...and the wood is pretty. Had one fall over at the edge of the field and pulled it out with the Power Wagon. Not bad size for a bush. Loaded it up with a broken Bradford Pear branch that was probably 10-12" at the base. I love the junk trees.
That's a nice redbud! Redbud is some hot burning wood. I've got some that will be ready in 2 years. It's not as large as yours but there's enough to make 2 or 3 days of heat. Most of it around here is rotted in the middle leaving little to burn.
I agree, that is a beautiful color, would be awesome to dry out a few blanks for some wood working as well! Pretty awesome that you get to burn some unique firewood when it dries out!
Here ya go! Driving I-75 south from the Ohio River into Georgia in the spring the hills are full of red bud in bloom. It's beautiful. Of course if your my age, 65, red bud takes on an entirely different meaning!
I used to get hooked up with a lot of purple bud. Very pleasant burning stuff that always brought a smile to my face.
