Got some stihl 50:1 mix meant for 2.5 gallons of gas-- my tank holds a little over 2 gallons-- is this close enough?
Got 2.2 gallons in, well above the safe fill line but its cold and i am using this shortly-- should be fine.
Yeah, didnt have the oil bottle handy when i asked, didnt want to do the backwards math to figure it out-- had trees to take down. I got the big broken branch disected and down, one of the backwards leaning trees on down and cut up too. One more to go-- backwards leaner, a bit bigger. I will put pics in another thread later.
I run 36:1 personally.. right in the middle of 32:1-40:1. I'd make sure that was a 2.5 gal oil bottle Adam. If it was a 2 gal, your gonna be running a little lean. Heck 50:1 and the inside of a saw/muffler looks to dry for my liking. This saw is ran at 36:1 and you can see visible oil on all parts (piston is covered ) And the crank area has oil puddles! More oil is more gooder!
I always try to mix a little rich on the oil side. Much better than mixing to lean Going from 40:1 to 50:1 was from the EPA pressuring the 2 cycle industry. No better performance, & not much changed in the internal components of the engines. New Synthetic 2 cycle oils are better, but to lean will cause more wear. Like Dex says, see that oil in there . That's what's between the moving metal surfaces, & keeps the parts from seizing. A little little extra oil will add a little extra life to the engine.
Wouldn't mixing 'rich' mean you are running on the lean side if you don't adjust your carb? The more oil you add to the mix the less gas you have to burn.
I run 32:1 in my modern saws. I keep 20:1 mixed for my Mac 10-10 and an old evinrude lightwin I have.
