I was hoping to be able to finish her up this weekend, but looks like i need 1 more load of cherry. So it looks like this is going to be another progress thread... Split up the black locust stumps and cut/split all the cherry I had up at the house. I split the driest stuff up first, to put in the middle. The dry stuff had a real nice color to it. Got to play with the big saw. What a ride! Sawed through these logs like branches! Just enough locust on the end of this load to even the base up to my planned 4'. Started work on the roof next. Used this post as a makeshift scaffold to work on the peak of it.
Here it is so far. Came up a little short on the cherry so I just evened it out for now. Another nice batch of kindling too - cherry and black locust.
That HH is looking AMAZING! Very nice work! When you get it finished......we'll have to guess how many cords are in it!
Man shawn.....you got toooo much time on yur hands...looks beautiful....iffn thats all cherry n BL you should be golden next year...both imo season quickly..
It was almost ready to go this year! Took some readings off the BL.. I'm gonna sit on it for a couple years though. Think I'm going to enjoy looking at it too much when it does come time to burn it!
Is the odette an epa?..or a dragon....cat or tube?...that stuff goes nuclear in my heritage at that MC....but soooo easy to control..
It's pre-epa, though I may have an epa stove by the time I burn this. I've never burned locust before... I'm excited.
Whats your sq footage?...if it 1500-2k....let me recommend the progress hybrid....buy once cry once..u get the benefits of both technologys....if ya need serious heat burn it tube style...u need da long uns. Burn dat cat...
Nice top on that thing! I ran out of steam building mine and just threw enough wood on top to give them a pitch away from the center. When fall came, I use the other old German tradition of covering them with plastic to keep out the leaves. But that is a fine stack of wood ya' got there. Brian
Contest will be guess how many splits are in the HH. The closest without going over wins. Prize will be a round of willow.
I hope to build my first Holz later this winter, and then another two or three later, so that I don't feel sad while slowly disassembling the first one.
And so begins the Legend of the Holzhausen... The wood gods were pleased with their new temple. The day the base was completed, the winds rose up and blew a mighty gale; knocking over many dead trees. The next day, some woodsmen were doing some cutting in the area. They stood in awe of the temple, and left an offering for it; lest the bad juju be visited upon them! But the wood gods would not remain satisfied for long. Before they would allow their temple to be completed, they demanded the sacrifice of another cherry tree!
