I have double felling dogs on all three of my Stihl saws, now. I really like having them available on the saws. But, I don't have the roller chain catchers on the bottom of the dogs, just the factory catchers. Are the roller chain catchers of much benefit?
Is there something about having double felling dogs that makes the roller chain catchers more necessary?
I have thrown chains before but never with a set of double dogs on the saw.

Who's thrown a chain with double dogs and a roller chain catcher or without the roller chain catcher? If you have had it happen, did it help, in some way to help save the chain, or you? Is it a safety benefit?

When I put the stock Stihl double dawgs on my 2 036's they had the roller catchers. I put the outer dawgs on my 261 and 462 and they don't have the rollers. Not sure if they even have the holes to put them on. I did throw a chain on the 261 a few weeks ago with no ill effect to the chain or me.

I believe the theory of the roller is just that it’s more durable. And that often times when you throw a chain on a normal one it can snap off and need replaced.

I put double dogs on my 460 and like them. Better dig when bucking bigger wood. It doesnt have the roller chain catchers. Ive thrown the chain at least once and cant say anything bad happened to chain, bar saw etc. IMG_3888.JPG IMG_3889.JPG

The stock chain catcher will work just fine no matter what dawgs you have on your saw.
If you throw a chain what difference does it make if has one or two dawgs, the chain still comes off and hits the chain catcher.
