Anyone know where u can get roxul or rockwool in the greater Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area? Don't want to order a pallet if it for almost $500!

I think I got mine at HD. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember paying about $40 for it. A little goes a long way. I filled the void in my chimney with it and still have 2 big bags of it left.

I got all of mine at my local Lowes. Sometimes it will be a special order for your local store but they do not require huge amounts for a special order. Just go talk to the guys at the contractor desk.

just as an FYI the "safe n sound" is what I have seen at home depot. Technically that is only a sound deadening and fire product not an insulation product. From what I had read it may be a different density and does not have a published R value.

Hmmm, this is from the first sentence on their own website.......
"ROXUL SAFE‘n’SOUND® is a stone wool insulation product for use in interior wall partitions of residential wood and steel stud construction where superior fire resistance and acoustical performance are required."

The "Safe" part is the part we need here. Use Roxul, period.

Either is probably fine but just to clarify what I was referring too:

CAN ROXUL SAFE'N'SOUND® BE USED FOR THERMAL APPLICATIONS?
SAFE'n'SOUND® is intended for acoustical and added fire resistance in interior wall applications. Interior walls have no R-value requirements so R-value information is not tracked or published for SAFE'n'SOUND®. We recommend COMFORTBATT® be used in applications requiring thermal value.

    And:

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COMFORTBATT® AND ROXUL SAFE‘N’SOUND®?
The difference between ROXUL COMFORTBATT® and ROXUL SAFE‘n’SOUND® is density (weight) and batt size. ROXUL SAFE‘n’SOUND® is denser than COMFORTBATT® and is manufactured to an approximate 3 inch thickness.

    Yep, saw those too.
Is the stuff you saw at Lowes the Comfort Batt?
    I'll go check it out.

Thinking Comfort Batts may go in the stove room, but then I'd need vapor barrier.
    Looking into that......lots of videos.

Roxul makes a lot more than that Safe N Sound product. I used their insulating batts (comfort batt), not the Safe N Sound batts. I did use a 6 mil plastic sheet vapor barrier when I used the insulating batts to insulate walls. I thought we were talking about using Roxul around a flue gas stack, chimney.

Not sure what insulation is doing in the "wood pile" area to begin with? Unless a firewood kiln is the goal? Or keeping wood stacks quiet?
    I dunno. I'm outa guesses....

When you do a new install on an existing old school chimney you should block and insulate the new installed chimney pipe. Roxul is the frequently suggested product for that insulation because it is stable at extreme temperatures, unlike things like fiberglass or foam insulation. It shows up quite often as a subject on other more diverse forums that include help on installing a new stove.

That would fit in the stove section then, or DIY area... That's all I'm saying.... No other issue here.
But I appreciate the peer check.:handshake:
