2BE56E94-1614-4385-852B-8707A66230A8.jpeg I spotted this wood by the side of the road about a month ago. It’s less than 1/2 mile from my house. I knocked on the door a couple times and got no answer. Yesterday, someone was home and he said I could take it. I think it’s cherry wood. Am I right?
It was also the first time I got to give my new (to me) Echo cs590 saw a workout.
It might not look like too much wood to some, but I was dripping w sweat by the time I was done.
2nd pic is what I still have to go back for. It was getting late in the day. FC739ED1-41DB-4EB9-9885-E249AFDF149A.jpeg 74467E3B-5C3D-4786-B774-EA11D0A5023B.jpeg

Actually, there was a lot more wood a month ago, but some other scroungers must’ve hoarded the rest and only left me main trunk ( approx 20-22” diameter). My daughter took this pic of the pile a month ago

Yeah the Goldilocks sized stuff goes first and the big stuff left behind. How did the saw do in its first outing?

BB, the saw was AWESOME. Hoarding is so much better with the right tools. Previous saw was an MS250. I bought the cs590 off a guy on FBook marketplace who only bought it to take down one tree in his yard.

Nasty weather for wood cutting but like making hay, do it while you can. Nice you got the trunk.

I see you use the sledge and wedge. Did that one log not want to come apart?

Yes, good eye, Backwoods, I was having a tough time splitting that one round, so I just brought it home “as is”, and I’ll finish it up at home. Even after I cut all around the edges with the saw, it wasn’t splitting. So, that other round, on top, I just noodled.

I noodle everything big down to size. The effort to split it down by hand is usually more than I care to do after getting it all cut.

That's a nice size cherry. How much more can you get? Cherry smells so good. Nice saw too.

Cherry can be a pain to split sometimes. Ive had it twisty and other times it splits nice and straight with ease. Do you hand or hydro split Patrick?

I tried to split this one round on-site with a sledge and a couple of wedges, but the wedges just got stuck, so I just took it home as-is. Now that I have them home, I have a hydraulic splitter.
