I've been keeping my eyes open. I saw a new one on CL last night for $325. It was a resale (pawn?) shop, not a dealer. It wasn't very close to home, or I'd go and try to bargain. They also had a 420 for $175, but it looked very used.
School me on a 421... strato? cc? Takes to mods? I've heard them lusted for prior, so what are the reasons?
Well built, small, fairly light 42cc screamer. Really just need to gut the cat muffler and open it up a little. The performance for that price is most attractive.
I'd never heard of this saw, but doing some researched im surprised I haven't. Seems like a fantastic saw for such a low price...
Quality built saw that is very moddable (vertically split case, removable cylinder) for a clamshell price. Not that there is anything wrong with some of the clamshell units it competes with. Much lighter in the hand than on paper, good runner too!
Yeah, like that's hard to do! I wouldn't mind running one but even when I had little limbers I so rarely grab them over the 50cc. Maybe when I get old and wimpy.... Oh, never mind too late.
Makita are same saw just different colors. Also some solos are also similar to the line but not anymore...the solo saw line from what I had e been told/read on here is no longer available here in the US. Others are better experts on this though. Back to the drool fest
The Husqvarna 543XP runs just as good as a Dolmar 421 but the Husqvarna costs $499 instead of $349 like the Dolmar. The Husqvarna is a Zenoa/Redmax layout.
I have never owned either the 543xp or the 421, but after reading way to much about the 421. I went to the dealer in the next town over to have a look at them, they look like real nice saws! Dealer quoted me $349 for the 421 when I 1st walked in the door, I must have looked at him weird as he then dropped to $339 before I had a chance to say anything. Then I pulled my phone out and showed him this ad for a 421, $329 with free shipping, NO TAX and free case. http://www.equipatron.com/dolmar-ps-421-chain-saw-kit.html?gclid=CN2CwbSn5cECFReBaQodi5YAjQ Then he squirmed a little and said I could sell you a 421 under the "fall special" and throw in the case free, for $329 but I would still have to charge you tax on it. I told him I would think on it, and looked at the 421 for a bit longer and left. Real nice saws and very tempting not to buy one!!
Had the pleasure of an extended trial in April at a GTG. Truly amazing saw, brand new, bone-stock. Problem is, it'll take me a while to wear out my GZ4000. One new saw (PS-6100) was enough.
