I'm about to pull the trigger on a few milling chains. Where is the cheapest place you guys have found? Looking for 28" and it seems the going rate is about $40 each from the places I have looked. Is it odd that a different grinding angle makes the costs go up that much? Thanks
I got Woodland Pro (made by Carlton) at Baileys. They have them both in 3/8 & .404 pitch.I run 3/8 on the big Husky's but would like to get a .404 one sometime for the Mac 125C. Is this what you're looking for? Its 28" .050 gauge 91 DL ripping chain for $28.03+ shipping. http://www.baileysonline.com/Chains...WOODLANDPRO-28-CHAIN-LOOP-375-X-050-91-DL.axd
thistle yep. That's it. And 10 bucks cheaper than I have found it. Thanks! Is 2 chains enough for a beginner? Also, I'm thinking of getting a mini mill to do the vertical cuts....do those also need ripping chain?
2 is fine. I just have 2 in each size, having a backup is nice when it gets dull, gets damaged etc.Never used a mini mill, dont know about ripping chain for those. They look pretty cool, might get one someday.
I've been looking for some myself. I had some of that Carlton chain on order from Baileys, but they're not getting any more in until mid-March. I don't think anyone else sells that brand. So, Oregon it is... ....and good luck finding a ready made loop with 93DL. I had to custom order one from LoggerChain.com. Or at least, I thought I did. I think I must have forgot to complete my order... Oh well - I have a 28" skip chain that I was planning to re-file into a milling chain anyway - guess I'll be starting out with that!
Got a 100' reel of Woodland 3/8", .050" ripping chain coming Monday from Bailey's. Essentially the same price as crosscut chain. Having a breaker/spinner handy - a big plus.
