Oh Ya. It's just starting to pop here. I make strawberry rhubarb jam. I usually buy the strawberries as the seasons don't really coincide here. Also, rhubarb crisp with ice cream on top. Sweet, tangy, yum.
I'll have to dig out the recipes.

I grew up eating rhubarb pie warm with chocolate ice cream. My dad's parents had rhubarb growing in New Jersey, where my dad was born in 1935. They brought it to Cleveland with them, where it took over half the back yard. My parents took some of it to their house, then I got some from them and have transplanted it through two moves since then. I still use grandma's recipe for the pie.

I'm not a pie person so the strawberry&rhubarb mix I never cared for.

The very best memories from my grandmother's place. She raise a tremendous crop of delicious rhubarb every year. We've been trying to raise some here and have had no success.

You're not planting anywhere near a walnut tree, are you? Like tomatoes, rhubarb can't handle the juglone that walnut trees produce. Walnut roots in the soil, walnut leaves or sawdust in compost or mulch...

It also needs a lot of sun.

I on the other hand never understood why someone would want to adulterate their rhubarb with strawberries.

Their was a small patch at my place when I bought it that was doing well. Unfortunately it was in a bad for me spot. Don't know what variety it was but seemed to do well in this region.

My rhubarb is coming up very spindly this spring. I don't know about sun but it lives in a damp area with shade surrounded by grass clippings from the lawn. I have been thinking of getting new plants and try another area.

Just checked the freezer and we have no more. Used the last of our frozen stuff bout a month ago to make grandmas rhubarb sauce to pour over ice cream. She would take a qt bag frozen and thaw it and pour the juice and chunks in a kettle. Turn on low heat and cook it down and mash it with an old potato masher. Add a can of what ever fruit pie filling you like...I love blue berry. Then dump in a pack of what ever flavor jello you like...I like strbry-banana. Mash it a bunch more. Poof multi use rhubarb sauce. Pour it warm over ice cream. Eat it straight up. Pour heavy cream over it and enjoy. Cool it mix in a tub of whipped cream instant desert. Use it as jelly. Ect ect ect. Now I'm drooling and hungry.
