Broken tail light. I seem to break one or 2 every year. The wood area has no real goo turn arounds for a 16" trailer. Been saving the parts. used some duct tape & a red lens off an old one to get this one looking better. Fits close enough. Most likely I'll break it next year anyway.
Remember the flat tire on the trailer Time to fix it. Using a plug. Fill & test: AARG, it leaks, & I found at least 4 other leaks. Called the tires shop, $ 128 for a new tire. Told them I only wanted one, they said $128. To the auto store for a tube. $18
To/from the store for a tube. Break the bead with the hammer bead breaker, roll one side off the wheel, (used dawn dish soap to help) Install tube, inflate , remove the spare & put it back on the trailer spare mount. A simple tire job turned into an several hour repair. Noticed 2 other tires have tubes, maybe their about worn out. Hope to get a few more years out of them. Was also planning to grease the bearing & check/ adj the brakes. Maybe tomorrow or Monday. to be continued :
I'm really tempted to find square tube big enuf to fit over my trailer tail lights weld some mesh over one end then tack it to the trailer. It seems to be a pair a year and if I had done that fix years ago I wood be $ ahead.
Not sure of tire size but I have bought trailer only tires. Put 4 15" tires on my camper this spring for 320 $.
Get some 4" sealed beam semi lights. They are cheap and durable. The brackets aren't expensive either. Local napa should have them. No corrosion issues like those cheapys http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Trailer-T...Parts_Accessories&hash=item4628546f75&vxp=mtr
The one trailer we use, has the taillights housed in 6" steel pipe. They are recessed in an inch or 2.
I didn't want to replace the light fixture, it is working. LOL Think I'll try mounting them on top of the angle next time. (pretty sure there'll be a next time ) Other side is broke too, but not so bad it needs replaced, + it helps as a back up light These were both new this year. No need to buy the expensive ones, they'd get broke too. If I had a welder I'd put a guard around it. But I bet I could still break them. Tire still holding air 41° windy, cloudy
Yes, on the top they will be a bit better but you still have to watch that brush. As for the fixing of tires, I've graduated to taking them down to the tire shop. Sure saves my body...
I keep saying I'm gonna cut some of the trees & brush to make a good turn-around Need to make it a higher priority next year, tail light replacements & repairs are getting old. Yea, was gonna take it to the tire shop they closed early on Sat. & the auto parts store had a tube. The tire hammer's not too bad but the 6 ply tire was real stiff, Used a couple 2x4s to pry it open to put the tube in. Lots easier than an ATV tire by a long ways
? for mechanics Electric trailer brakes. I adjusted the adjuster (in the drum) on the trailer brakes to just lightly rubbing. Hooked up a 12 V battery to the trailer plug, brake wire at a full 12 volts, all 4 lock up tight, by my not able to turn my hand. Is that a good test ? The brake modulator on the PU, on the lightest setting, when empty locks up the tires on gravel roads, ( I adjust the slider to off, all ok ) , On pavement it's ok with minimum braking. Any higher setting locks up the tries on pavement , But empty not a big deal to run with brakes off. When loaded, I adjust brake modulator in to where I can feel it slowing everything down, by just barely pushing the pedal to where light comes on but no braking from the PU yet, just the modulator sending volts to the trailer. Not even full modulator voltage locks up the trailer brakes on pavement when trailer is fully loaded. But I can feel it pulling pretty hard & slowing pretty hard. OK ?
Good work bogy. You have more patience than I. I would have waited for shop to open and brought tire to shop. LOL Did something else while waiting. And I probably would have bought a new set of the cheapo tail lights at the cheapo store. LOL
Cut/removed/replaced some of the rotten deck boards. Just spliced in some short peices. No need to buy new 16' treated bords yet, Should get a few more years out of the deck now. Had some man-o-war deck stain. Figured it might help water resistance. Maybe help the wood last longer. Nice day , worked with the garage door open. Trailer done, parked out back, out of the way for winter. The pictures: On to another project
All of this is looking very familiar. I like it when my neighbor borrows my trailer, he always brings it back with something repaired on it. Nice job Dave.
