Had a big red oak I have been putting off cutting down because it was near the power line. Finally decided to tackle it today.

It had a good lean away from the line with a large limb on the away side.

Cut my notch, bore cut in, and just as I reached the back side over she went. Worked out just as planned. Helped that it was close to home. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

DOND, not sure I did not really look. Still need to split it up so I'll take a look then.

I was gonna say the same thing, that tee was straight as an arrow. Should be decent splitting.

" Another down! Another on gone! Another one bites the dust!" Nice work! Some cold January evening, when you are enjoying the heat that old oak will be putting out, you'll have some great memories of taking it down.;)

Nice job on the felling. Looks like some nice straight trunk which will split like a dream!

Looks like a very productive tree. High BTU, straight, small top, easy splitting, easy to get to, etc.
    I like those.

Thanks for the comments every one. I could not get these picture to load yesterday, and they are my favorite of the day. Guestamated the tree at 65-70' tall, and as y'all have noticed very straight. On the hill side it did pose a little roll issue at times. I have 3 round that rolled about 25' away from the others.

I hate that when logs go rolling downhill. Nasty.

That does not look like any red oak we have but looks more like a white oak. Or is this a different type of an oak. There are only about 60 different varities of oak...

A part of me said it was a white oak, but when I stated cutting into it, it had red heart wood. Either way it's BTU's. :)
