I am in the process of cleaning up and organizing some RC cars and trucks I have. The price increase blows my mind. I have a gallon jug of fuel that actually has a date on it and November would be 12 years old , the price on it is $34.99 Today that same fuel is $32 for a quart. Glow plug then the price on package is $3.25 Now just under $12 I know the cost of everything has gone up but this is insane. Like anything else I guess you have to pay to play.
Speaking of piece increases…had some work cloths that had some diesel fuel on them (quick way to a divorce: wash anything with diesel on it in your home washer!). Brought them to the local laundry mat, it was 3.75 for one load of wash!
Days of the 1 dollar are over. Quart of oil used to be a buck , now multiply times four. Can't change it so pay up , we have no choice.
I was going to mention that you might want to bring some nitro pills with you if you plan on buying fesh nitro fuel. Its was $20-25 a gallon last time I purchased any.

Bones Brew 30% Nitro Car Fuel with 8% Oil (15 Quarts) & (1 Q I guess this doesn't have a hazmat charge for some reason.....
Ok, it looks like you can buy the quarts of fuel from Amain hobbies without hazmat charges. They have fuel ranging from $10.09 / qt... https://www.amainhobbies.com/morgan...n-race-fuel-one-quart-coofswstoff20q/p523385+ up to $22.99 / qt https://www.amainhobbies.com/losi-nitrotane-30-race-blend-car-fuel-one-quart-losf0430/p150515 If I get another nitro rig I'll buy that "cheap" Morgan fuel in the first link. I added 4 qts to my cart just to see what happens and it didn't have a hazmat charge warning. I'm not sure at what quantity it's triggered. I've only purchased nitro fuel locally back when into nitro cars.
There doesn't seem to be a haz-mat charge but I see only quarts. There used to be gallons as well. Maybe this is a way around charges because of the container size? Putting together a parts list that will include a couple quarts of fuel , that's more than I need right now so I will know shortly if there is a charge.
I almost got dragged into the money hole that is RC. I stopped myself at two. Couple friends committed fully. lol Great fun, but hard on the wallet.
You are 100% on that , if it is even possible. Oil we run in our race stuff is $15+ a quart Cheap needs to be removed from Websters Dictionary ; it no longer exists.
Mush less productive as well. Have the LiPo batts come down any in price? Last I was in, they were coming on strong...pretty good while ago. I was cheap...ran NiMH. lol Because of exposure to the RC world, I was aware early of the potential failures of lithium batteries. Many tossed them into an ammo can while recharging in case of kapow.
i don’t really know since I don’t run any battery power - yet anyway. I myself need the sound , smoke and smell. What’s better than the burn in your eyes from nitro. Maybe like a battery saw. Sure they have their place as well. Right now none here. The price we pay to have fun. as far as cost and productivity. Well no reward with RC except fun. I need a work break occasionally so have to pay. It is an addiction to the internal combustion engine that fuels me.
I bought a nitro truck but sold it before I ever took it out of the box. That was about the time I bailed on the hobby. I could see the horizon and decided to just port instead.
My saws aren't productive either lol. I only have 2 lipo batteries as far as RC goes. One is a receiver pack for the 1/5 scale gas buggy and the other is for my crawler. It came with the crawler. I ended up buying a NiMH pack for the 1/5 scale because its a pain to get it in and out being under the tuned pipe and I'm certainly not leaving it in the car as dangerous as they can be. Both my lipo rc batteries are inside a fire resistant charging bag and thats inside a fire proof lock box. I'm not a fan of them really. The power is great but the need to always discharge them to a storage state is irritating as well as them being house / garage torchers. And no, they are not getting cheaper. That battery that powers the on board electronics is inside a sealed compartment between those red lines, under that pipe. I can charge it in the car. So NiMH it is. No burnt down garage. Lol.
I definitely prefer the gas or nitro for the reasons you state. That's in anything non crawler. Crawlers are all battery but can run for a looong time on a charge. No so much in a fast car or truck. It's pretty much like the full size vehicles. The brushless / battery stuff will put a spanking on the gas / nitro stuff but while the batteries are charging the gasers keep running.
