Looking for some extermination advice, I have rats living under my sheds. Problem is fairly new as an old neighbor who had chickens was careless with chicken feed which likely attracted them in.....they’ve since moved out but didn’t take the rats with them. I’m aware the issue is beyond my boundaries but what can I do besides the bait trap/have a heart and poison box. I’d like the feeling of I’m winning the battle but momentum is still on their side Thanks
Set lots of traps for sure. They might even catch more than rats. My wife sets them all over the place to catch chipmunks. Between the traps and her shooting, we get lots of them, but most with the rifle.
My friends old man was a pig farmer, so rats were a common occurrence. They made some fine moving targets for the .22
They did $6k in damage to my tundra this winter.... they use soy beans to insulate wires in Toyotas, no plastic... i learned this after the issue came up... Traps, lots of traps!!!
.22's, lots of them. Put a jug full of water so it stays in place, slather the top half with peanut butter. Shine a light over the area, they are very active at night, aim, shoot, & repeat. If you can't shoot .22's where you are, get a high powered pellet gun. I speak from experience.
I do have a high power pellet gun, which is used to dispatch them when caught in the have a heart....I guess it sounds like I’m out of options and will just have to keep up with what I’m doing Thanks for all the advice

We had what looked like a small rat at work, the teacher didn’t want to kill it so she had a student put it outside. I found it frozen on the sidewalk that night.
Bucket Mouse Traps | Five Gallon Ideas Never used it for rats, but it sure does the trick with mice. This site says use a larger drum for rats. My old man actually used this to great effect on squirrels as well, in an old pool.
I know a guy who used to mix plaster powder and oatmeal. It would firm up in the rats system and they'd die. Obviously, other creatures can be casualties of war with this method, so not ideal.
If they are truly localized under sheds and these aren't just random wood rats...and their main food supply has been eliminated a 55gal drum trap sounds like it is in order. The video above of terriers in "action" is impressive but I don't have to dig the holes for mine. My Yorkie will dig his own burrows and disappear, or stand back while Lab/Cur mix does the heavy lifting and he jumps in for the kill, even the Cheweeney gets in on the action -she's better at getting them once flushed.
