It's been 4 days of on and off rain, temps in the 40s for highs and wind . After doing some repairs on equipment and vehicles for 3 days, Mama Bear and I decided that today between showers it was rhubarb jam day. 45 jars later we are done. In one year we will be almost out again. Us, the kids, and grand kids are all rhubarb jam junkies. Sure glad that 30 years ago even though at the time my wife didn't can, her grandmother made her write down her recipe "in case some time grandma won't be around and you want a taste of grandma's jam." 20250518_121804.jpg 17476165244848469233645942130319.jpg

You grow your own? If so how many plants? I have six in their third year and might be able to get two jars out of them

I have 3 bigger plants and 1 medium sized one. Today I picked about as much as I could without over picking and I got 30 cups of diced rhubarb. Give it a week of warm weather and I'll probably be able to get that much again. About every 2-3 years I dig one up and divide the root ball put about a bushel of composted manure in the hole stir it around with the dirt and replant one of the halves of root. About every 10 to 12 years they all get divided with this rotation because I've been told if they get root bound they tend to bolt and put a lot of energy into seed production and stalk production declines. We do jam every year and freeze a bunch and make rhubarb crisp all winter long to remind us of spring.
