Like many in this part of the country I took advantage of the summer-like weather yesterday to S/S the fruits of last weekends "just had to get out and cut" partial load of hickory and red oak... Savvy surveying the work to be done Added a T post to take advantage of the additional length of the rails-and basod cinder block in the middle is still doing fine-was able to fill it out, level out the stack and as soon as I find my chalk line I'll stripe and cut my new section of 10x10 rubber roofing to cover this run
Nice work Ashwatcher! All I did this weekend was burn gas.and oil. Just not in a chainsaw, but rather a 97 HP 600cc twin cylinder sled. That'd make a heck of chainsaw power head.
Looking good Sir! Way to take advantage of the nice weather and get outside. Fresh air and some wood working is my favorite. LG Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
This rack is mostly hickory, with cherry, ash and red oak sprinkled in---I have the rails for another---just need to find the supports to rest it on---think I'm gonna do double stacked railroad ties to get it off the ground-seems appropriate to couple with the rails-Air underneath is key-will post a drying testimonial thread tomorrow... Looks like some crumbling ledge up on the hill. Maybe some of that would work as support for other rails. If you can get it down, that is. Sent from my XT1030 using Tapatalk
Very nice looking stack Ash! I think being that high up off the ground and single row stacked, it will dry very quickly... How is your woodshed hoard doing?
Hey Fanatical1 I trust this finds you well-About to move a couple pallets full of 3yr oak and hickory to the shed, hate breaking down stacks but that makes me go cut more...the bay to the right is 90% locust c/s/s 9/15-pics to follow later of MM readings
Looking good. Thanks for the pictures. I never thought to put a tarp down while splitting over my quahog shell path. You learn something new every day.
Ok-the locust has been in the shed since 9/15 along with some white oak-the shed faces south, prevailing wind from the west and sits 12" off the ground on expanded metal grating-we decided to split a few on Sat while doing the above The oak was running 18-20%. This is slated for burn 17-18'
Nice!! Looks like the locust is drying quickly! Very quickly! Also looks like you have a couple holes to fill in your fabulous woodshed..! Suppose to be 62 degrees in southern Ohio this weekend. I hope to get out and do a little cutting. By the way, who's the hot splitter operator?
Thanks Fanatical1 - I said above I have to empty some pallets on up the bottom to move to shed, 3yr oak-can't stand to see the void so I'll be getting after it soon to replace-Same weather here,, after 18 holes Sat I may get after it too... Splitter op is the one that watches over my ash....
Nice looking stacks. You have Mother Nature turned on quick dry. Nice work! Them thar hills looks like home to me. Born and raised in the Mountain State I was. Left many years ago for a better financial future. I get back about once a year. My 45 year reunion is this summer and once again my wife and I will bicycle form our home in northern Kentucky to Barboursville for the festivities.
Thanks Ralphie Boy , and wow that sounds like a ride to me. Is Barboursville home base or just where the festivities are held? I live about 40 min south of there.
