Ok, just got home from a whirlwind weekend. Driving from Northern South Dakota to mid- southern Iowa. To see the SUPERBOWL sprint car racing......... The World of Outlaws, Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville Iowa. Oh my word....Dreams came true yesterday. And it was Finale night. So I just uploaded my second YouTube video called "Knoxville Nationals, the calm before the storm". They were playing some pretty calming music and I just thought that I should just pan my phone's camera so that I can capture everything. Thank you.....
All my other videos were... .....vertical videos which someone here gave me some crap for. So I won't upload them. If you want me too I can. If anyone here is a sprint car fan just look up the official videos. Me, my kids, and my mom and dad, were sitting just past the flag stand but before turn 1.
It is something I liked in my youth but soon lost the fascination, probably because I suddenly found more fun with the opposite sex.
Asphalt is for getting there..................Dirt is for racing !!!!!! WOO drivers are the size of jockeys with testicles the size of beach balls.
I have Always wanted to see the Knoxville nationals. I used to be more of a race fan but as I get older it holds less appeal than it did when younger. Watching a NASCAR race at Talladega is kinda still on the bucket list.
Former season ticket holder to rockingham and martinsville. NASCAR got drunk on popularity and greedy. They quit rockingham to move out west. The racing and tickets were no longer worth being stuck in traffic for hours after the race. They built all those extra stands and now they cover them. I can’t tell you the last time I watched a race. Back in the day I met Bill Elliot and some of his crew at a seafood restaurant in Aberdeen, NC. Super down to earth guy. Now it’s gated mansions on Lake Norman. Richard Childress shop is 30 minutes down the road from me. Race day at Rockingham and boxes of Bojangles was family tradition. The campground was def not a place for Karen and the woke police. It seems weird to me now that I ever spent on scanners and merch. Trying to remember now who had a super foul mouth. Might have been that whiny beech 24. Lol
Was Larson there? That guy can run the wheels off of anything. He will set records if he keeps it together.
Always wanted to see that. Not really a circle track guy but this is something that I always liked. Enough power to run 10 Priuses shoved in a rig like that driven by the right foot. What can go wrong ? Glad you had the chance to take it all in!!!
Which, incidentally, probably started due to the use of a car also! (Or maybe a horse and buggy?..........)
Couple hrs from my place. Went to many nationals. We took a vintage car there to run and later raced a IMCA A mod there for a special. Days gone by. Thank gawd! Now I watch them WOO fellers on the TV. Occasionally. Glad you had a great time.
Yep, Kyle Larson won the whole thing. Then the next day driving. Home we listened to the NASCAR race on the radio and he was there . That one was a road course at Indy.
Use to watch NASCAR. Never again. I do enjoy dirt track and drag racing. Haven't been to a race for neither in years though. So I guess Im not a major fan but won't turn down a chance to go if Im able to.
I'm with you on drag racing. That's my thing. Many think " How hard can it be ? You just go straight?? " Well there is more there than meets the eye. Being an engine builder by trade and still doing it on the side at a buddy's shop I just can't get it out of my system and still enjoy doing it. For any nay-sayers on drag racing ; go to a national event. It's all good but to experience the power in top fuel and funny car is just something you need to see in person to appreciate it.
First time I went to the nationals at Maple Grove speed way I was walking to the track and I could feel that power in my chest when they were running. I was like wow, but it was nothing compared to how it feels when sitting in the stands!! Just raw power. Its awesome!
We have been to a few NASCAR races, Atlanta and Bristol, Thunder Valley is LOUD... Been to a few drag races. I want to go to Charlotte, I think, where they have the 4 wide racing... We got back into truck/tractor pulling. There's a track about 45 minutes from us... And these little mini's will go all over the place...
I'm into two wheeled racing. Anything that will not fall over after you get off or out of it, is easy to race regardless of the surface you are racing on. I might be going to the demo derby craziness at our local track though. It's a very high banked paved oval, supposedly the fastest 1/4 mile track.
