These 2 40ft Maples are dying but are blooming fine up to about the 20ft mark and was wondering if I should try cutting them off at the 20ft mark or just take them down? Hard to see but they are the 2 behind Buddy and Mrs Loon wants to try and keep them alive for the little rock garden below. Thanks gang.
Take 'em down. They're not going to get better. Might as well fell em while you know that you'll have good hinge wood in there. Sunlight and water for their neighbors and successors.
Never tried it before muck and figured they weren't gonna make it? Might still cut them halfway for this year as they are still leafy and will keep me in her good books for a little longer.
try it... loon maples are known to rot inside out... especially when 2 grow together. common here... the barks rub and grow into each other... so it kills a section of the tree above it...
Loon , who zips the pants in the family? Gasifier always said that he wore the pants but Mrs. Gasifier did the zipping!
I cant find THAT picture Rock? Here's the limb that I was dealing with that luckily fell 'softly' on the house in the middle of the night a few years back. Not sure it woulda helped all that much? but chained it till I could deal with it the next day.
It's hard to say how long that tree will last. I've had some like that and swore I should cut them down but then forgot and 5 years later they looked about the same. As for the cutting from the bucket, yes, we've done that several times and so long as you aren't reaching up from where you are, it is okay. However, you still need to be strapped in with a safety belt of some type.
