Im still shopping around for a pellet stove and came across a quadrafire 1200 locally for under $1000. It looks really clean and seems to be in good working condition. Any reviews from you pellet heads on this stove? Reviews on the web are all over the place good and bad. Just don't wanna buy a stove notorious for problems. Im only trying to heat my single floor under 1500sqft. I'll stove have the wood stove in the basement. Thanks!
Never owned one but they seem to be a very solid unit and a hell of a heater. I am sure Dexter Day and others will be along to give you first hand experience.
I had one for 5 yrs. just sold it this past year. Was a solid heater and heated just over 2,000 sq ft for me. For the first 3 years I had it, it was all I used (had the wood stove and pellet furnace the last 2 yrs I owned it). I used about 4 ton a year, and kept the house around 74*-76*. And I used the lowest setting about 90% of the time!! Yep, only needed Medium if it got really cold (around 10* outside) It was a bulletproof stove, with an awesome heat exchange system, easy to clean, and super simple to run. I sold mine to a buddy for $1,200 and that was a deal, in my opinion. Granted he got an extra combustion blower, ignitor, and some extra gaskets. But $1,000 is about 1/3 the price. If you are needing a good stove in that budget range? Then that one will heat a space that size easily.
Thanks dex! That's just what i wanted to hear. I emailed them and im hoping i can get over to look at it tomorrow( if it's not already sold ) when im done plowing. Stupid snow!
You guys are looking to get a bad storm? No? Make sure you have all needed supplies and prepare for the worst. I hope the stove is still there. If you get it? We will walk you through what to check and clean. Before you buy it? Make sure it runs. Always see something start before purchase.
Yea it's lookin like 6-10" through tomorrow but possible heavier bands of course. Heck it's rainin right now, we might not get an inch but we're ready for it. Few days worth of wood in the basement, gas for the genny, and plenty of food. I'll definately make sure i can see it run and go through the normal cycles.
Another vote for the quads. Good solid stove and very dependable. 8 years out of mine with minor issues.
No go on the stove . They finally emailed back today and said they're giving the stove to their son. Apparently his is acting up. Thanks for the input anyways guys! The search continues.
Well, just know that this is a good unit. If you can find one in the $1,000 range? Grab it. There are great deals out there. I bought a Quad Santa Fe for $300 and the guy delivered it from 3 hrs away in Pa for an extra $60. It needed a snap discuss (few bucks), a door gasket, and some paint. I sold it for $1,200 a couple months later Good deals are out there. You just have to be ready to jump on them ASAP.
That's too bad you missed out, that is a great stove and that was a great price really. Keep your eye out be patient, another will come along.
Not sure how far you are from this.....it's a Quad, and says it will heat up to 1900 sq. ft., so I thought I'd pass it along: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Quadra-Fire...ve-/121287776113?ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:3160
Yeah, the little Santa Fe is nice, but only 30,000 BTU. The Classic Bay is 47,500 BTU and the Mt. Vernon is 60,000 (or maybe 55k)? I would stick to those two if going Quad.
