    Hello

Quadra Fire Castile Ash Door was not latching.

So I took out one of the OEM spacers and added 3 washers.

That's not a bad idea. Because the air comes from the ash drawer for combustion, it doesn't matter if that is sealed tight like on the Classic Bay, where if the ash pan is open, the flame goes lazy. If you open the ash pan on the Santa Fe/Castile, there should be no change.

If using an OAK a sealing ash pan gasket would make the OAK work better. For sure. But with no OAK, it is almost an unnecessary part. IMO.

    Hi Dexter
Yes, the Castile, like the Santa Fe and Contour have Ash Dumps that close down so no air from the ash pan can get in. Also, since the Fire Pot goes down close to the ash pan, then air can come into the fire pot from a leak in the ash door as well as the fresh air coming in from the bottom or back.

Looks like you are correct Dexter.

The old Contour has no ash dumps or gasket on the ash pan.
