First of all, welcome to the forum :handshake:....lots of friendly & knowledgable people here.
As for what to look for on the supposedly never installed Santa Fe, I'd check for obvious fire scorching in the firebox, holes/scratches in the exhaust outlet where adapters/pipe had been installed. Short of removing the exhaust blower to check for ash, that's about all I can think of.

BTW, what are they asking for them?

Thanks for the welcome. I would love to get a Harman, but $$$ isn't available for that. Not too many used Harmans by me. Are quadra fires a good used stove?

If the Mt. Vernon is an AE version, that has a lot of moving parts in it...and they had issues early on. How old is the Mt. Vernon?

Make sure all the blower don't have noisy bearings, and also make sure the ash dump plate in the firepot opens and closes somewhat freely. Check for carbon buildup in the firpot.

Yes....but like everything else if you can't see it burn you're taking a chance buying it.

They're not sure. They said the manual has a 2006 date. They said its been used 3 years though. I think the date they saw was the copyright date in the manual .

I'll make sure they run them first as usual. My present USSC 6039 was a craigslist buy and I had them run it.

They're asking $2000 for a new Santa-Fe and the 2006(possibly newer) Mt Vernon

Is this from a dealer? In any event, I wouldn't buy anything that I hadn't seen run. As for the man. date, check the plate that has the serial # on it.....should be on the rear of the stove.

You can buy a brand new Santa Fe for $2349 and they have a $100 coupon on the website, so $2249. Is the full factory warranty still in effect on the "almost new" one?

If it truly is "new" and never installed, that's a good price, IMO. I'd still try to get them down a little more. Maybe cash in hand of say, $1800, might do it.

IMO. that's too much from a private party....a new one from a dealer is $2300 and I believe they are offering discounts now too from Quad.

Ohhhh...well just from afar it looks like then it's a good deal AND I'm sure you can chew that down some......assuming the Mt. Vernon works correctly.

The Santa Fe is absolutely brand new. Everything is in plastic still. The Mt Vernon is used and works.
