Putting in a new burner tube in my campers water heater tonight. The gas line is old and brittle and inevitably broke and it is after hours. Looking on the interweb I can find pilot light assemblies for NG with the tube burner tip and thermocouple, but no mention of LP. Is it a universal or are they like the burners and are jetted for one or the other? I would rather not burn my camper down or remove the fur on my face when an improperly jetted pilot light turns into something resembling Mt Vesuvius, ain't worried about the few hairs on my head or in my ears though.
I can say that in household appliances they are very different. Has to do mostly with pressure. A camper propane bottle will have less pressure than NG line!!
Propane has higher pressure than natural gas. The orifice is smaller for a propane pilot than a natural gas pilot. Do not use a natural gas pilot with propane fuel. If you're looking for camper parts, I'd be surprised if any are listed for natural gas
You are correct that they are different, but you have propane and natural gas mixed up. Propane runs at higher pressure than natural gas.
Yup, I called and talked with a pro. I was unsure if pilots were jetted or if they were just a spring loaded seep valve. Turns out that there is a jet for the burner which I knew, and that indeed there are jets for the pilots as well so don't cobble mix n match. Parts will be here tomorrow and then we will see what I can singe off.
