This will be a long story so bear with me. I need some prayers for dad. Long story short in 2005 the doctors discovered a aneurysm on his aortic root coming off his heart. When they went in to do the surgery before they got started he went into cardiac arrest, and was down for over 10 minutes. That night was touch and go and they did not expect him to survive. God blessed us with a miracle, and he made it through the night, and a month later he went back in and had open heart surgery. Fast forward to today, and he went to the doctors for a preoperative evaluation, he needs to have a major operation on his foot, which will be done the day after Christmas. While at the cardiologist today, the doctor told him his heart valve is getting bigger, and he is going to have to have another open heart surgery, plus he has another aneurysm on his aorta again. They cleared him for his foot surgery, but the doctor said he is in a holding pattern he called it, and they will monitor him monthly to measure the size of his heart valve. My father since the cardiac arrest is always scared now to have surgery, and since the arrest, he walks with a cane. He developed memory and balance problems. He also has pulmonary hypertension, and a big abdominal hernia that there watching also.. The poor man has been through so much, and despite all of this at the age of 66 he still works part time. He is such a inspiration to me, he never gives up. He has been through a lot, serving in Vietnam in the navy, to a near fatal car accident in the 60's, to now. I just keep praying the good lord will place his hands upon him, and keep him safe. I love the man more then anyone could imagine, and I am so scared one of these days I am going to lose him. So if you could say a extra prayer for me, I would greatly appreciate it. This is a community of good folks here, and so I knew you all would not mind me sharing my story. Thank you and God Bless. Mike.
Mike, No questions asked! God know's and God cares! Your Father is tough, he is showing "you" the way….. you will understand this in time. My prayers are there, and with you and your father.
Asking God to send a special xmas miracle for him. Enjoy your time together as much as possible. My wife and I lost both mothers last year in the three weeks prior to xmas. Just be there for him and with him.
I want to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. He is still going strong despite all of this. This morning worked called, they had a service call that needed to be ran. He is retired but works part time for his company he retired from. With his orthopedic boot, and his cane in tow, off he went to work this morning. When he got home this evening, my mother, and him headed to my sister and brother in laws house to go with them to see the girls, at a girl scout program. So he is not letting this get him down. That Aneurysm has not been growing for the last couple years thank the good lord, so I think if we can get his foot fixed up, and monitor the heart valve, I am hoping we can hold off on the heart operation for a bit. He is scheduled to have his valve rechecked in 3 months, they were checking every 9 months, but they want to check it more often now.
Prayers sent... I believe there is strength in numbers as far as people praying for one person.... Years ago my grandfather had tumors that were cancer.... My sister had about a dozen or so people come to the hospital to pray over my grandfather from her church... A month later he went back to the doctors and Xrays showed nothing! I never forgot that! The doctors were speechless....
Regardless of how you may feel, he does not want to change things and he wants and needs a routine to give him a purpous in life. That is a sense of dignity and give it to him! I lost my father at 30 years old, massive heart attack right in front of me. Let him do his thing and he will enjoy it and respect you for it as well. The lord will decide on things, keep your faith.
