Stopped to pick up some material for a job and i always park near the outdoor cull rack which is usually empty. They did away with it for a while. There was several sheets of wood strapped together. Marked $100 with original OTD price close to $450. Six sheets of T1-11 and two 3/8 CDX. They looked good so i bought em. The only issue was some mold/mildew on the T1-11, but not too bad . 3/8 was fine and getting used on current job. Have a repair where i can use a couple of the T1-11 Took them and stacked with stickers on horses as the T1-11 was damp yet. They had another strap a few weeks back with cedar, pine boards, framing lumber, sheets of OSB etc that was marked down to $150 from $750. It took a boatload of self restraint not to buy it. Storage issues of course.
Better get what you can while you can get it. I fear it might get even worse.............Great score!!
I hear ya. I need 1/2 FIR CDX (which i love to use) and its $67 sheet here last time i checked. 7/16" OSB is pushing $50 sheet!
I just checked the website and it is now $72.99 for the same stuff I bought on Tuesday for $60.99. 7/16 OSB is $54 here.
Not sure how accurate it is but I read somewhere $50,000.00 of lumber in 2020 could frame and enclose almost 10 homes. Same 50k cant even do 3 today. Granted, it didnt say how big the homes are, etc...
The boss wants a wishing well to cover the well head I was going to use t-11 to match the garage but I just can’t bring myself to spend 60+$ on a sheet.
What I have been hearing is that the lumber package for an "average 2k sq ft home" is up $35k...but that was last week, so probably more now! I mentioned somewhere here a few weeks ago that I looked at some SYP 2 x 10 x 16' treated at Menards a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised to find them for $29 (and change) each...I just now looked again...over $51!! There goes any ideas of a new deck this summer!
It's getting to the point where we'll need to check with our insurance companies to find out if we have enough coverage to get the house replaced if a fire or whatever destroyed it. With these prices it would be easy to go over the policy limit.
A couple weeks ago I was going to buy some T1-11 but after almost fainting once I saw the price I simply walked out. That project can wait a bit longer.
Yes, my idea for a garage build was put on back burner. Had plans for some other remodeling as well, but now they're scaled down.
If you are not needing all of an 8' sheet Warner, find one with a damaged edge or corner and ask someone in lumber if they will sell cheaper. I believe they also have preprimed T1-11 as well. Most of the time the price will be cut in half. Yesterday i got two 80# bags of concrete mix for a $1 (yes a dollar) each as they were ripped open.
Yes, I pick up bargains now and then and am not afraid of asking for them. One bargain we got a few years back was on a refrigerator. $1495 original price. Was marked down to $1295 and the again. We needed one badly as our old one died so we went shopping. Had almost bought from another store but held off. I told Judy we maybe could even check at HD. Bingo. Sign said only 1 left. We got it marked down further; under $1000 but don't remember right now our final price. They agreed to deliver it that afternoon. Truck came and as they readied to take it off the truck I suggested they get the old one out first. "Oh, but this is curbside delivery only." What? I then simply to take it back because I would not accept delivery and headed inside and closed the door. It was not long before they wanted to remove the old one. But they had not said anything about setting the new one in! They did finally agree to bring new one in and put it in place. I definitely would have sent them away had they refused. So, it turned out good and the fridge is great. And I too have got cement for a dollar. And once someone helped me load stuff on the trailer. While doing it they ripped a bag. I got that one for free as they got another one and said to keep the ripped one.
Yeah, this is why I’m putting any unnecessary projects on hold myself. I just can’t bring myself to spend that much. Also, I believe somethings gotta give. This cannot be sustained. I guess it’s just a matter of how long you’re willing to hold out.
If demand increases sharply, a bidding war occurs for the raw materials. Big orange is still making an average of 33% on each plank but they had to spend more to acquire that plank. If they started charging a 75% mark up, that would be price gouging.
