With surprisingly low temps here in Wyoming, I snuck into the mountains this afternoon. Low 50s made perfect weather for falling some trees. I've been exploring some new areas of Medicine Bow National Forest for an area I can bring a trailer to and come away with more wood in one haul but haven't found anything yet. It's slim pickings for dead standing (I've had to get creative). Here's 1.5 hauls. Also, not sure who put that 8" round lodgepole tree there in the forest but ooooops!

    Aspen enjoyed the view!

Im sure Aspen did enjoy the view. Medicine Bow National Forest is beautiful! I'd enjoy the view, too. Good load, can you only cut standing dead?

About 40 miles each way. 20 of that is dirt/gravel roads. I was hoping to find an area where I could pull a trailer. The bad part was I couldn't find easy access to dead trees. That side of the mountain seems very healthy right now (which is good)!

You can only cut dead standing trees. I'm finding it's best to find an area where the beetle kill has reached and then figure out how to get a vehicle into that area. Occasionally, I'll find trees broken or knocked over from thunderstorms. I like to think I'm keeping the forest near me pretty healthy right now. Hard to find much to cut.

I've been hitting it hard this year with firewood collection. I've pulled about 6 cords out of the property that needs room for a cabin. I think I'm up to 12 cords collected this season. I use a pallet system with each rack holding a 1/2 cord. Then move it into the barndo via a pallet jack during the winter.

Nice set up. I like it!

Kinda jealous of the sun exposure you have. Most of my stacks are in the shade
