Anyone burn these in ther stoves? http://www.amazon.com/Color-Changing-Fireplace-Color-Cones-Refill/dp/B005EZYV9W/ref=pd_sim_lg_53 I wonder if they have some chemicals on them or something... that would deem them no good for CAT stoves? I'll have to ask Woodstock and/or the manufacture/seller of them. And, what about burning regular pine cones? Never thought of that before, bet they burn good/kindling?
I don't know what they use for the color but would like to know. I too have wondered if they would be okay in a cat stove. Perhaps I shall check on that one. As for regular pine cones, there should be nothing in them to do any harm.
ive used pine cones for firestarters for AGES, especially the sappy ones, you could even get them to burn when wet, great for camping
On another note my grandfather always kept corn cobs around for fire starters, I remember. Any times sitting by the open fire with him and we would get cobs out of a box and use them to start fires. Really miss those days and having him around.
Machria, I talked to Woodstock and got the answer that was expected. Yes, it is okay to use pine cones as a fire starter; many do. However, it is NOT OKAY to burn those cones that give different colors. We do not know what they use for making the colors and it no doubt would be best to not run that stuff through a catalyst.
That's exactly what I figured.... I'm sure they are either using a chemical for the colors, or compounds like metal or phosphorus to do it. All not good for the CAT.
Oh, and since your still on the phone with Woodstock.... Ask them about doing this (see post #43): http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/for...ogress-hybrid-closed-off-air-feed.1089/page-3 .
