So my neighbor had his 2 large ash trees taken down and he asked if I wanted the wood. Yes. I did. I did a write up on it in the bs'ing thread. Here's my thread on the pile and it's progress. I finished it all off yesterday. I told my neighbor that I'd clear it all by memorial day weekend. Here's how it started.. The other angle I wanted to get it all off of his front yard grass asap. Progress from last weekend. That was about half the pile. The other angle Here's the pile of rounds and a few pieces that I could move with being in longer pieces. Another angle the silver maple "sticks" were brought over by another neighbor. The ash on the right and center is all of this. There is about a face cord of honey locust I split weaker this spring that is under that pile on the left behind the silver maple sticks. I worked on the pile yesterday. Here's after I took a few trailer loads to my land, and took a break at this point to mow the lawn. Here's more work.. The pile at the end of the day There's a few longer pieces that I need to cut into stove length of 17-18", but my primary concern was to get the logs off of his lawn. I can cut those shorter later. That pile was at least 2-2.5 cords. I took care of it over 2 weekends.
great looking work and wood Horkn Nice manageable size which is a plus in my book. I wouldve been after that in a heartbeat. Nice score!
Yes, most was totally manageable, but there were a few big boys that my 20" bar on my dolkita was not be able cut through all the way without going to the other side a little. Those are big rounds. I did have to noodle a trunk piece that had a big branch coming out of it. I was tired and it was the last piece to get from the yard. The saw made it lighter.
I will definitely be letting it roll downhill. Grab the Biggie's and split them in half, much more manageable then.
That's a fair bit of work there Horkn , nice score on some good wood! Bet the neighbor's happy/impressed too.
He's very impressed. Three tree service that he used, left them in log form. That saved him 1500 a tree. So 3k less than the other 3 quotes he got. These two trees were on his land next to our crazy neighbor. Most of the branches were above her driveway and where she and her family/ caretakers park. While I would've rather been working on my wood shed, I had to take care of the logs on his lawn. He's a great neighbor. I help him with his tractor, swapping deck and blower out, and other mechanical stuff, my wife dog sits for his Springer spaniel, he lets me borrow his tractor to mow while I'm fixing mine. Etc...
Sounds like a really good neighbor, and its great that you could help him out. And, that he thought enough of you to give you the wood, Win, Win, situation from my stand point of view.
I'll update the thread, but it lives. Just not done with the wiring to make it run with the wiring on the tractor, not the separate with from the donor tractor. I have wiring schematics, and we're world on it tomorrow. I'm bringing the taller to work to hopefully take it home tomorrow
Oh boy was that a bad post. We're working on it tomorrow. It runs but only on the wiring from the donor tractor. I'm bringing the trailer to work tomorrow in the plans and hopes that we can get the wiring done so I can bring it home after work.
