Picked these two up today off Craigslist. Owner said they have some issues and priced accordingly. Hoping I can fix them myself. Now onto watching YouTube videos of people fixing saws! Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
Nothing beats a pair... actually plenty beats a pair but thats not the point. I would like to score an 028 for a good price, had an 038 for a bit and it seemed like a good saw I just had too many 70cc saws at the time. Very similar in build to yours, I am pretty sure the manuals are the same.
Thanks guys. I know very little about small engines - so this will be a learning experience for me. I went from having no small engines to having several in the past year - snowblower, log splitter and chainsaws. Already I can tell that one saw has a rattling sound inside the muffler (assuming an internal muffler bolt) and the other saw is missing a bar nut. All the chains need sharpening - at least one spare chain just needs to be junked. Going to drain the fuel, put new mix in there and give them a try. The seller said they were hard to start, so should have good compression. Will stop at the store and get carb cleaner and then order some carb kits too. If there's any advice one can give, it'd be appreciated! Thanks!
I'd start with the carb at initial settings and go from there. Always a mystery when it is second hand, so baseline that at least. Should say it on the sticker, something like 1 turn out from lightly seated on H&L.
Well, one seems to be working fine after cleaning it up and replacing old gas with new. Other one will start on choke and then will die taken off choke. Got two carb rebuild kits, so will work on that. Cleaned up one air filter Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
Just remember to pay close attention to how the gaskets and diaphragms go when you take the carb apart.
