That looks like the type of winch tower crews use when building them or putting up antenna's on them.

That's cool! Very similar to the one on my crawler. Should be in the 25K pull range.

Pretty close!! It's a Jaeger hoister for the elevator contraption you see on the side of tall buildings under construction.

It won't be that strong but it's much faster.

Saw it come up for sale and it turned out the owner had a stroke before being able to use it. Supposedly had to have the engine rebuilt do to water in the exhaust and it cost him plenty.
He was going to skid wood for his sawmill.
I was the only caller who didn't want to take the engine off for other uses. When he realized that I was going to keep it all together he really cut his price.
I had actually bought and paid for it sight unseen last year right before I broke my leg.

The way it's supposed to work is you tie a rope to the hook and run the rope down to a pulley anchored by what your pulling and back up to the winch. Then the capstan pulls the rope dragging the cable down to the load and when the load is winched up it drags the rope back up with it.
Then the operator and the choke setter don't have to walk back and forth.

At least the gears aren't pointy.
Flushed out the gearbox and the oil pan and filled with fresh fluids.
Has compression on all 4 cylinders.

I'd like to put a proper muffler on, this might take a while....

Yes. I was broken in as a cell tower hand on one of these.
    Old timer's war story alert.
We would connect ourselves to the ball (three of us with our harnesses) get hoisted up by the operator anywhere from 100-500 ft on the tower we were building or working on. Hanging in our harnesses.
When it was time to come down was terrifying on the taller towers.
We would all get tied on and set our weight in the harness. Pretty well hanging nose to butt below each other under the ball which was around 18" in diameter.
Then the operator (who was the boss) down below would start lowering us. All well All good. And then... On a long drop and since it was super slow to power us down, he would release the dog clutches and let the winch freewheel freefalling three guys with a 250 lb metal ball right over their head. I think that may have been where the term "Let the dogs out" may have originated.
While he was laughing maniacally over the radio.
As we neared the ground about 100 feet or so, he'd (supposed to be) gently apply brakes slowing us and kick the dogs back in to bring us the rest of the way to the ground.

I was so dammed happy to get rid of that thing and get our first hydraulic winch where that little trick wasn't possible.

We have a standard/universal tractor muffler on our Wisconsin V4 powered pump...made a huge difference!
