    Hello
Some stoves do come with dust screens built right into these squirrel cage blowers. Every environment is different but in this case with a golden retriever for a pet and a pellet stove insert with a convection blower on the left side with the intake facing in, right up against the hopper, auger chute and auger motor it is so tight that it must be removed to dig the dog fur out! After a couple months of winter with not much outside activities the blower started building up with this fluff & refuse so the flow of heat was really stymied! We had to try something and after a year, I am happy to report it could not have worked any better!
There are some blower screens available and easy to purchase unfortunately the more common size was discontinued and the only size available now fits relatively few pellet stove convection blowers!
Also the screen is made of round wire type rods with good spacing but not the best thing I have seen. Therefore we picked flat slat type mesh with good spacing and amazingly it keeps all the junk out!
So after purchasing a large piece at the local Home Depot, cut and fit it. Then I welded it to the trim ring and painted it to match. Attaching it to the trim ring makes easy removal for deep cleaning and the ability to transfer it to a new blower !
Now this convection blower can be easily cleaned by brushing the flat slats with a furnace brush from Home Depot and a shop Vac :)
Your result may differ but has anyone else tried this??

The only thing I might worry about is a fiber or filter paper filter could get clogged pretty quickly, and if not cleaned would be detrimental. Hell, I can even get people to clean their own igniters!

well, we cant control what others do, be we often have to constantly react to what others do.......theres almost no reason not to properly clean things, given the plethora of information available......zip drive with stoves, youtube, online searches, owners manuals, etc. A day doesnt go by when we have to field questions as to why the stove wont ignite and shows a 5 blink, or door open, etc

The issue with modern solid fuel appliances is... Manufacturers falsely tell their potential customers they are 'plug and play' and that is as far from the truth as possible but it makes for a good selling point until of course they don't function any more. Then you get to remedy the issue, for a price, of course.

This is so true for manufactures, and sellers for that matter, in many areas.

NoOne told us our Oil Fired Boiler was plug and play. However NoOne told us that the $5 oil nozzle melts and warps from the intense heat in the fire box and can easily be changed with a couple pairs of pliers to keep it running from one year to the next? Also very hard to find this info!!

That is the function of most sales 'droids. No further comment needed.

Other than our new Bryant +95 condensing furnace, I can repair just about everything else and I don't mind having our HVAC folks maintain it at all. Way too much electronics for me to deal with. I do a once a year service with them for 150 bucks. I'm good with that. They know what they are doing and candidly, I don't. Far as solid fuel appliances go, most are pretty simple and reliable so long as they are maintained properly.

Not much electronics involved with a bio mass stove except the brain box which I've never had an issue with because it runs all the time on a surge supressed line.
