Bicycle mated to lever action hydraulic splitter. If you build it they will laugh (pedal powered wood splitter) - The Home Shop Machinist & Machinist's Workshop Magazine's BBS
So I just had an idea...why not a dual foot pedal to run a hydro splitter? I'm no engineer, so someone else will need to do the R&D. I would purchase one, if available.
What if... a piece of wood fell on the pedal and your hands weren't in an ideal spot? I think the safety police would kill that idea. Maybe a guard over both?
I don't think they want your hands free to "get in trouble"...that's why many of the lil electric splitters have 2 handles to make them work.
Some have auto forward and reverse...kinda same thing? As far as that goes...a cheaper vavle is the only logical reason they don't all offer detent forward *and reverse. Honestly, you can get just as mangled on the back stroke, just not by the sharp part. Another idea I had this am....Semi trucks. Where are the electronic billboards on the sides of the trailers?? Owner operators could probably double their income advertising for some corporation(s) while driving down the road?
I know a fellow PA hoarder that loves his electric SuperSplit. Touts of the zero oil changes, zero refueling and ridiculously quiet operation.
I'm building an electric hydro splitter right now...not as quiet as a SS, but still pretty quiet compared to a regular gas splitter. I had bought an old DR electric flywheel splitter for real cheap last year, needed some work and I got it going enough to use it some, got hooked on the quietness of it, really makes splitting much more enjoyable. Anyways, I have been thinking of building a custom splitter for years and when I finally found an old Huskee 22 ton with a junk engine for real cheap, I decided that was going to be the bones for my splitter project. Gonna have it set up for electric and a quick couple setup where I can throw a 8hp Predator engine on it in a couple minutes for any time I might need to do some splitting "away". Oh, adding a log lift too.
