FB score. Pallets for my pens. Approximately 80 to be not exact :) Heavy duty which means heavy weight but I like them, there’s no modifications required with these pallets. They’re perfect as is. It’s gonna take quite a few trips to get them all if I decide I want them all, which is the plan.

Quite a bit of firewood onsite too. I asked about it of course. Guy I was dealing with didn’t know much about it. Just that it’s not his and it’s odd for it to still be there. Usually the site workers remove it right away. They’re building a solar farm. Anyway much more wood than I can handle and far enough away trucking that much weight,,,,,, nah doesn’t add up as a wise move. I got enough on my hands with these pallets :)

Bring more straps and stack the pallets higher.

Wow! That’s a great score! Congrats! And nice trailer too.

And irony, cutting down trees for a solar farm. (Not trying to get political here)

Dude, these things are heavy and I’m way out of shape :) I was toying with the idea of standing all of them up but they wanted to fall on me. They also have 2x4 cross skids nailed on so they do not slide without catching every few inches. Was a real workout just getting these in there. On the way home I bought some furring strips. I intend to lay those down on the pallets lengthwise, push the pallet on then pull them out. Hoping that makes it a little easier.

Irony noted and understood. Best I can say is they’re probably better than windmills. They’re certainly better than “low income” apartment complexes which were all the rage in this state just a little while ago,,,,,,,not politically speaking :)

They will for sure. A lot of extra wood for support will keep them from bowing out. Now that I have some years on this pen construction I know my old pallets werent strong enough, I tried but time doesn’t lie. I’ve been adding extra supports this year. Now I won’t have too. Another nice benefit is the slats are already separated. The other ones I used were almost solid and I had to smash off every other slat for air flow. Nice kindling but also the ground is littered with boards and nails sticking out while you’re doing it. Didn’t step on one yet but it was probably only a matter of time LOL

    Great score Joe.

Yeah they did a solar farm near me a couple years back and I asked about the wood. The boss never called me back. There were huge log decks just like yours.

So were they free or did you have to come up with some $$? I live in the pallet mill capital of the world it seems here, yet getting free used ones is like pulling teeth.
Guy at the feed mill says they are expensive and everyone wants them returned. Sorta like remember when they used to have returnable beer bottles??

Id say at least four logging trucks full. I didn’t get good pics as I had the feeling it would never be mine. Sometimes you can just tell these things. I’m sure you know what I mean although I also know you’re more persuasive and determined than I. It was also private property, the original farm house that sold the land. Turns out I was in the wrong driveway even with all the wood and solar panels in the backyard.
While I was taking a break loading, in the truck windows up AC cranked, an older man walked by giving me the evil eye. I waved twice, his glare didn’t change. When I was leaving he was looking over the bulldozer next to that wood. He was either the site developer or the owner of the house. I don’t think he liked me in his driveway this morning :)

They were originally on FB for $5 a pop. I saw the price drop to 1$ a piece and bit. The guy was in the middle of telling me I could have them for free and I slipped him a $50. He just didn’t want to list them as free. You’ll get 100 yahoos running around a brand new solar field looking for one free pallet. They don’t like visitors in these places. At the same time I went there expecting to pay $80. I figured the $50 will buy me some time to get them out of there and it did. They wanted them gone yesterday. You know how that is.

    What town?

Doesnt hurt to try. Some nice logs there and easy pickens with the winch, but I know what you mean about that feeling toward a score.

Durham. They’re around 16 feet most of them. Now you need permission to cut and someone has been contracted to do it,,,,not likely to happen.
Besides I need to take it easy on my truck. 40 minutes one way with a loaded trailer,,,,,, This stupid truck was supposed to last me the rest of my life. I spent $4000 last year just in rusted parts underneath. Transmission pan, exhaust system, all four shocks and from brake calipers. I just got it out of the shop Saturday with another $1900 bill to change the oil pan that rusted through. Seems the great engineers at dodge decide to add a lip on the transmission that extends over the oil pan. I was going to do it myself because they quoted me $1400 last year. When I got under the truck I never even attempted it.
According to the service manual you’ve got to seperate the engine and drop the front end just to replace an oil pan. The 1980’s are over.
The next day the rear tire was flat. Cracked valve stem. Had to toss the spare on. I’ve had enough adventure with this thing :)

OUCH! Did you buy it new? What year?

Im surprised mine has gone as long as it has. Eight years come Halloween. Only two starters and you see how I treat it. Brakes and tires too, but that's standard upkeep. 201k miles.

40 minutes is a schlep. I'd pass too, although my snooze/lose score is a half hour one way. Couple loads yet to retrieve.

Keep the quad running good and stay on Lamont's good side if ya know what I mean? ;)
