Got some nice mid 50's today and decided to cut a dead standing red oak no too far from my woodpile.
As I was clearing a some muscadine vines and saplings for a lane to drop the tree, I stepped on a yellow jacket nest - first thing I felt was something hit my elbow(shirt has worn hole there) followed by subsequent whacks to my forehead, neck, temple and a couple got up my bootleg.....
I dropped the saw and ran like a little girl down the drive swatting and swinging stung ~18-20times, felt a bit woozy decided I needed to at least go shut the saw down and find where the buggers were coming from so returned with some spray from the shop and nuked the leaves around the huddled mass.

That ended my day of firewood cutting:mad: and my elbow still hurts

Hope you don't develop an allergy,
    The spray works good,
gasoline works to, dump it in , don't light it, vapors kill them.

I had several nests this year, wood stack, wood shed, pallet stack, in the ground.
Only got hit 2 or 3 times but sure killed lots of wasps (yellow jackets).
    All gone in Sept. :)

Yellow jackets are no fun. Luckily, I haven't been into them in a while.

Did the same thing this fall, walking through my woods to check out an uprooted elm... Next thing I know I stepped on a ground nest... They got me about four times... I used Amsoil foaming carb cleaner,,, sprayed the hole in the ground and the stuff foamed up like spray insulation. Nothing in and nothing out, stuff worked great! Watch yourself with that many stings... I swelled 2 days later with the 4 stings, couldn't see my knuckles on the hand they stung...

Hate them. While visiting my sister in-law, we had a dog on a tie out in her back yard who was stung by hundreds them. Only a rushed visit to the vet saved her. I was stung several times as I dragged her away from the assault. She vomited bees that she had ingested trying to protect herself. I was surprised the vet was able to save her.
I hope you let your doctor know of the incident.

Well, that sucks. Take it easy, man. I somehow made it 34 years without ever being stung by a bee or hornet. Then, four years ago I'm clearing out the back of the property and I get nailed a half a dozen times. First thing I thought of was "chit, I wonder if I am allergic?"

    Mmmm...sweet revenge!

Worst I've had was a bald faced hornet sting to the tip of my nose. Painful, and somewhat blinding temporarily. No chance for revenge, just running.

Man i hate yellow jackets! Glad to hear ya got revenge on the little devils. I usually have a few run ins with em each summer. This past fall at work i had a few get up the back of my shirt and they got me at least 5 times. I yanked my shirt off and ran around swatting like a madman. Im sure i got some good looks from folks driving by.

Woke up with my right eye mostly swelled shut this morning - pretty sure one got me around my eyebrow. the rest are just bumps
I've been stung by plenty of wasps/hornets and it's usually a sharp pain for 10-15mins and then becomes an itch. Never anything like this the day after

Believe I'm going to wait until it gets really cold before I dump gas done the hole, the spray just got the ones that were waiting in ambush amongst the leaves, we're supposed to get 70's this weekend followed by strong front and some cooler temps

I can tell you that Amsoil foaming carb spray worked great.. Ran up, sprayed down the hole quick with the plastic snorkle tube... the rest was history... Came back the next day and all gone...one quick burst! Spray came back up out of the whole and foamed the top shut.. Best stuff I ever used... Better then brake clean,,, didn't need to hang around...the foaming action did the trick...

I found out the hard way a few years back while deer hunting that I am allergic to bees. When ever you are cutting weather on your property or somewhere else,, keep some Benadryl stashed somewhere it can be a life saver.

For anyone in the future that runs into this, the best thing to get them off you is to peel of shirt or coat as quickly as possible and swing it around over your head. You can not outrun them for sure.

I felt like an idiot going to the store today..looking like someone coldcocked me(without the redness) GF shook her head when she saw me after she got home from work:eek:

I have an Aloe plant that I keep for bug bites. I cut some of the plant and split it open and lay in on the sting. Only takes a little while and the sting calms down. I hate using poisons but I don't waste any time killing any nest of yellow jackets or other hornets. Most bees just leave me alone, but not hornets or yellow jackets.

Took me a couple of weeks, From my ordeal before all the singing and itching went away, Had a little trouble breathing right after it happened, I called and talked to the doctor, Then dressed in my motorcycle rain gear and a full face helmet I went out and got my revenge  :D

Yeah, the bastages got me last summer when I was mowing. Probably about a dozen stings. It had been several years, but they always pop back up to nail me once in a while.
