Well at least through the woods and to a grandmothers house. We do live right next to a small river though. Blow over red oak i noticed in Ms. buZZsaw's mothers woods last month. She is a couple driveways up from us. Warm day Thursday plus the rain melted all the snow and it was dry enough to cut. Based on the weathering looks like a victim of TS Isaias back in early August. Maybe 50 yards into her woods.
Most of the heartwood was bad, but still some decent wood to be had. IMG_3652.JPG IMG_3653.JPG IMG_3654.JPG 9" dbh birch nearby snapped and hung up. Carefully got the trunk on the ground, but top still hung up. Had a good lean which made it easy to drop. Bucked several 4' chunks and finally had to lift and carry the top to get it on the ground. IMG_3655.JPG IMG_3657.JPG IMG_3656.JPG IMG_3658.JPG IMG_3659.JPG
Was finishing up and saw this big hawk land nearby. Zoomed in pic. IMG_3661.JPG Also found hair inside the trunk. Im thinking possum. Luckily nobody home! IMG_3660.JPG
I may SS and leave the oak there for a year (which ive done before with oak) as its out of sight and good breeze comes through there. IMG_3663.JPG IMG_3665.JPG IMG_3666.JPG IMG_3664.JPG
Found another broken oak close by. Future cutting this Winter. IMG_3667.JPG IMG_3668.JPG All in all a great day to be in the woods. Perfect for the mind, body and soul. Doesnt get any better in my book. I was going nuts being cooped up with the snow cover and was having DT's :hair:from hoarding!
May go tomorrow and SS the oak and pull the birch.

Don't forget where your stashes are.

Looks like a nice wooded area to cut.

It is a nice spot. Wish i could get more firewood from the woods rather than roadside.

Good question. I figure a way somehow. My friend has given me more space. And i have more room now at my PA in landlords yard.
Took a walk in my own woods yesterday afternoon and I have downed trees from the storm a couple days ago. I'll get to them this Winter. Probably same MO SS and leave on site.
I have maybe a cord of SS dead ash from last Winter in my woods now. Couple face cords of red oak in her moms woods. Ill move that before Spring to stacking for at least next Winter.

I’m jealous! I wanted to be out today so bad, but figured I owed my wife one more day of putting together toys, cleaning up, and being around the house. It was nice, but I’ll be heading out for a couple hours in the morning!

I know you have your system and i t works well for you. Howevah.....

While we had snow, I was still able to split rounds onsite. For me, its good to have available inventory to process without needing to drive anywhere.

I'm hoping to add to my inventory, before the next snow.

    Hoard on!

Yep, we were talking about that yesterday. Down to about 10 cord on the log deck, not much snow. Gonna need to get the skidders out & start hauling logs again. I've got jobs stacking up on me.

I had no rounds to split here. I did have a bunch of oak rounds covered at my friends that i couldve worked on. Problem is its 100 yards to them and i didnt wanna trudge through or work in that much snow cover.

No the problem is you don’t keep the snow. Round and logs pull very easy over packed trails and bark stays clean
