My wife is afraid of the dark. I've installed a bunch of solar lights including path way walks, 4 gutter hangers and 1 large motion spot light. It's been working fine until today, since it's been raining, none of them worked when she got home from work and basically had a panic attack. yeah.... so, here i am in the middle of a dilemma where i pony up some cash to hire an electrician to wire in an outside motion light set up or get a solar set up with batteries that can take and hold a couple days worth of charge. i was considering getting a harbor freight kit, marine battery, and hacking one of the underperforming lights for it's motion and sun sensor relay, but i really don't know what i'm doing so that may prove to be a waste of time. And then she'd surely complain that the panel is ugly.... ugh. Anyone have any recommendations?
I think you're on the right track with the battery back up solar lights. I'm sure there's some affordable but not ugly LED light set you can run that will do the trick. My Mom bought a cheap solar panel led motion floodlight and it works very well. I guarantee that the tech has only gotten better, making them smaller, brighter, and longer lasting.
I have had these for years and both work great The Harbor Freight is a motion detector light Moonrays 91754 Richmond Solar LED Metal Path Lights stay on all night. (Glass not plastic) I usually buy Used & new (41) from $24.81 from Amazon. There are 3 AA batteries in each light, bright and lasts a long time
I have LED light in garage set to 30 minutes, cheap timer in line, tapped off garage door opener.. Wife nor afraid of dark but the eyes in morning in woods behind garage. Oh bought second opener for porch facing detached garage.. Also exterior lights on house new ones have sunlight sensors.. Leave them on but only use power after dark so shut off at night and on in AM until return home
How about these? https://www.walmart.com/ip/Solar-Li...IvWTpk1Qx7ffd1ULZrQziXvkJsjBvdTBoCpLUQAvD_BwE Or these
I just installed a couple of these. I like them. They charge during the day. The two side lights can be aimed to the side. Really nice on the driveway and one pointing to the basement door. Very bright.
That's similar to what my mom has. Hers is a little older design though. It's still very bright and it charges even if there isn't much sun. There just has to be some semblance of light and it will charge.
I agree. Most folks get an initial impression of something when it first comes out... And if it's great initially they write it off forever. I also was considering the harbor freight kit for my new wood shed, but my wife bought me this awesome little clamp on swiveling rechargeable light that work fine for loading and unloading in the dark... It lasted a full two hours on high working outside last weekend stacking after dark
