Here's a picture of my brother's wood operation. Not a very good picture, but I know we all like pictures.
Where do you split it? I'd assume right there as well. How far away do you haul it to get it to where it gets burnt?
We split right there. It's about 250 yards to my brother's OWB. We load the wood on his Mule and my RTV and fill his shed every couple of weeks. He burns about 8-10 cords a year. He also sells wood-probably 25 cord this year. He is a self employed excavating contractor, so he gets loads of logs from a logger buddy. He hauls this guys skidder and dozer to jobs and gets paid with logs.
Will C, you have a filter set in your camera (iPhone?). That's what is making your picture look so yellow. To turn it off set it to take a photo and touch the three circles thingy. Then you get a Hollywood squares set of choices. Pick the middle square, which is labeled none. You can also go back and edit your photos to turn off the yellowed look if you want.

My brother takes logs from the pile and spreads them out with his skid steer. We cut most of the way through, roll them with a peavey and finish the cut. We the pile is done, he pushes the rounds up with his backhoe and puts out some more. It takes about 3 times of doing this to cut a 22 ton load. Much safer than cutting from the pile.
That's the way I also think when I can get log loads from a tree service. Except I lack the machines. I get him to lay it all out flat or at most one log nested between two. Then roll them out one by one and cut. I hate cutting on a pile.
