I ordered myself my Christmas gift for this year, a Nikon INLINE XR 3-9x40 Matte BDC 300 scope for my Thompson Encore 50 cal. muzzleloader. There are other good scopes out there for sure, but I like Nikon products and have been very happy with one of their "BDC 200" scopes on my "1100".

Besides their 300 yd. BDC 300 reticule, it has 1/4" MOA adjustments and a whopping 5" of eye relief. That eye relief was a major selling point when shooting "magnum" loads.

I'll be ready for the muzzleloading season now, Jan 4-7.

Seems common to mount these muzzleloader scopes using QR rings. Makes cleaning the gun in soap and water a bit easier. Y0u pay for them though. I think mine were around 75 bucks??

No more soap and hot water for me, I gave all my blackpowder to some re-enacting buddies and switched to Blackhorn 209 this summer. Claims to need just regular types of gunpowder cleanup, and I have seen no problems with doing just that to date.

So you are saying my T/C Omega does not need that pathetic bucket of soapy water approach? 209 primers and 30 grain discs?

Blackhorn 209 does not come in disks, just loose grain powder. They have a conversion chart to download on their site. For example, a 100g load of blackpowder would be equal to 70g of Blackhorn 209. You are only supposed to use oil based cleaning products with it, not water. Check out their site below:

    Hmmm...

Might need to try that in my 50cal mini cannon and my golf ball mortar:drool:

I'm not a fan at all of removing the scope for anything mid season. Having worked for a crossbow company and discussions with the engineers convinced me to not mess with a scope. It's amazing how some of there testing showed the something as simple as the pressure on the screws in the rings causing different pressure on the scope can change where you hit. I just deal with the scope and clean around it.

Also no more black powder and hours cleaning my muzzleloader. I like the 777 powder as it cleans up way easier and saves a ton of time.

Swags- triple seven is what I am using too. No need for soapy water? Just typical cleaning with oils and bore cleaners? You shooting the 30 grain discs? I am and use 3 of them per load.

As far as scopes go, I have made efforts to improve the mounting of my scopes. I use alignment tools and a ring cutter. It is amazing to see how far off a ring can be regardless of how expensive it may be.

No mywaynow, you still need to use water with 777, not oil based solvents/cleaners. Oil based solvents/cleaners are for use with Blackhorn 209 (BH209). Check out these links for some more info on the two of them.

I do use some water but the 777 has cut way down on the amount of time needed to clean.

It finally arrived today, I was starting to get worried! Mounted it with some high Burris rings on my Thompson Encore 50cal. I want to be able to thumb the hammer with big thick gloves on if necessary. I'll sight I in as soon as the rain stops here tomorrow. I'll be ready for the January 4-7 season now!

Sure, I can always squeeze one more out back. I'm only going to have one friend here one or two days.

Something like mid 90's I think, can't remember for sure. It was shortly after they had come out, its an early one. Traded a .223 Contender towards the cost of it.

With a magnum load of propellant (120-150g equiv) this setup is a legit 250yd "rifle" that can legally be used to hunt the "shotgun" season too in Ohio (regular rifles can not be used for deer hunting in OH).

The Encore is a great platform for sure.

There are some "shotgun" counties here in Va. that are the same way as far as MLs. A friend just built a custom smokeless ML with a Lilja barrel that is easily 300 yard capable for that reason. But it is finicky, your loading procedure has to be perfect or groups open up.
