Yesterday was our opening day. A good percentage of the zones in the state are Earn A Buck zones. That lasts until October 1st. I usually don't get to hunt on opening day because it's a Saturday and I work every Saturday. Yesterday I finished up early, which really means on time, and I got home at 5:30 PM. Took a quick shower and dressed and I was in my stand my 5:50. It's nice to live in the woods. About an hour later I see a lone doe coming down the trail and she gives me an 18 yard shot. I always donate my first deer to HHH and I had her checked in and the paper work done by 8PM. Now I'm buck hunting! Sorry about the poor photo..but at least there's a woodpile in it!
Someone was looking out for you on day 1. I agree with Well Seasoned , nice of you to donate her to HHH
Glad you were able to get out woodsman. It's got to be a little bit cooler for me to get out there. Still feels like fishin weather! Hopefully the cooler temps stick around this week.
Hunters Helping the Hungry (HHH) since I had to look it up... figured i'd post it for anyone else that was wondering
HHH also means no dealing with a dead deer in 90 degree temps! They pay the butcher fees, or most of the fees for the first so many deer too. The thought of opening the belly of deer in this heat keeps me away from the treestand. Though I did spot a 140 class buck on my way home the other night. Got the inner predator juices flowing.
