Because of the wind I left the Beech alone, it's up on one of the highest hills on our property. I headed back down with the sled to this topped off Cherry, I took care of this but it was still windy down here so I called it a day. In picture 8641 is a small Cherry branch which I cut up first. This area was one of the hardest hit by the ice storm, lots of work left.
Nice trailer load of cherry. Not much splitting with that haul today either. Looks like you have a few bean poles to drop which will be easy splitting also.
Lots of topped off bean poles, it will be a few years if not more before I get 1/3 of them. Usually in the spring we get hit with high winds so I expect more work.
Lots of work in this area, I did see an old trail that runs up to the hill, it looks like once I clear some down trees/limbs we'll have a new trail which comes back down in a different area. If I clear a few stumps on the other end, it will be a nice trail. We have some downed Cherry just up the hill from where I was working today so it needed clearing so I can get the rhino up to it.
Not been too great for cutting here with the wind the past few days. Today I went in back with the atv. Got stuck. Danged snow. Wish it would melt.
It would be the same here Sav, I'm waiting until we lose more snow for the rhino. If we don't get anymore snow that might be it for the sled, the road is getting down to pavement so I'll save the runners.
Yep, the melt is over, and I have a bunch of snow left in northern Ohio. Going to be cold next week again. March is I a winter month as far as I'm concerned.
Yes, another week of colder weather, just not sure the snow coming will make it this far north. I need some snow on the road so I can run the sled down to the entrance to the woods. The wife wants a trail from the back of our house property, up the hill that would take us up top then down to most of the trails on our property without going down the road. I'll see if I can get a picture of the mess this week/weekend. Since the ice storm of 1998, it's a huge mess back in that area.
I wanted to cut more but the tree tops were swaying pretty good. Still burning the Beech & Sugar Maple so we're staying warm. How was the wind over your area today? The Wood Chop Shop was just okayed to be a Mahindra dealer. http://mahindrausa.com/
Was back and forth a good bit this weekend if I should try to cut some Zap. Was coming downstairs yesterday about 10:30 heading toward the garage to do a quick repair on the truck then off to the woods. Surprize...the washer was overflowing in the laundry room. Got that mess cleaned up and I believe I figured out the issue...pickup part tomorow. Fixed the truck and said the heck with it. Ran out about 3:30 today and couldn't get to the area I wanted to go (mud and more mud). Ended up cutting about 1/3 of a pickup of red elm that I had spotted awhile back. Now here's the real kicker, even if I could have got to the spot, I forgot to put the gas can in the truck....DA !!!!! Fortunately I had a partial tank in both saws.
Nice. I was wondering when he was going to start selling larger equipment. Seemed like the next step.
This is the area the wife wants that new trail, if you go down in the small revine on the sleds (go down it some) then hang a left up the hill, lots of dead stuff down with..... I'm not sure. http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/index.php?attachments/100_8131-jpg.3473/
I talked with this guy at a hockey game Saturday night, I think he said they have another 3000 trees to tap. Edit, that might be taps not trees. http://voices.yahoo.com/rutleys-maple-farms-shows-off-state-art-operation-2972607.html?cat=16
