Got a guy wanting to do some horse trading with me and he has an older (obviously) 032 AV non running that he wants to throw in. There's also a Johnnyred 535 too...it looks pretty crusty...like it was buried in a pile o crap for quite some time. He claims to not know anything about either one. The 032 is definitely the nicer of the two but the recoil has been removed...assuming somebody started to work on it. I need to get my hands on 'em and see what the compression/piston, etc look like. I was thinking the Stihl might be worth $50 to me?? I dunno...would the Johnny be in the same ballpark? I was hoping he had something bigger...like 65-70cc, but maybe I can refurb these and flip 'em...what say ye? Anything specific to these models I need to keep a look out for?
Since he has them, you want them to be worth as little as possible. Now, after you refurb...they'll be worth gold. LOL. $50 is reasonable for a complete parts saw. I might try $25, tho...throw some drama queen on him....."Oh, I just shudder at the amount of work this saw will be...I may just swoon!"
I'd pass unless they were very cheap. If you do a really nice job on them, they might bring $130-$140 apiece after repairs. If you paid $50 each for them in the first place, that would leave $80-$90 to cover replacement parts and all your time. That's a class of saw I've learned to stay away from if my intention is to make money.
Yeah I'll hafta see how this goes...I don't think he believes they are all that valuable. He kinda mentioned them as an aside, the guy apparently has no cash and wants my old stove. Right now we are talking about a couple lead launchers, maybe these saws, and I might try to get him to throw in a load of firewood (seems like he's a firewood seller) on trade for my stove...we'll see how it goes. The last guy that made me an offer like this ended up being nuts, I thought he was offering me 2 items (barely worth it) and it turned out it was my choice, 1 or the other...ah, no. Lets just say his valuation on his items was just a bit different then mine.
I would go for the lead launchers, and maybe the firewood. The saws you mentioned are more hassle than its worth.
Had one at our cabin. Cut a lot of wood but then developed a massive air leak and other problems so we parted it out. My Grandfather bought an 036 and never looked back. Limited aftermarket, low demand due to age, youre looking at $30-$100max. $100 if it ran with no issues and looked good. Id pass unless free.
