Right now my Ideal Steel is sitting pretty, she's been cleaned out and I've done a once over to see if there was any damage from its first year in use. Some of my offseason plans are; to replace two sections of double wall pipe and have the chimney swept. I'm considering a probe to monitor the cat temps, need to ask a few IS folks some input on that. Lastly, I'm waiting on some test results from WS on some adhesive they used to hold some seals in place, they seem to have melted and leaked a black soot onto the floor behind the stove.

I'm researching what insert we want to put in our fireplace. This early Fall, I'll have an insert in the old energy wasting fireplace. Low end will be a drolet, and if I can swing it, the Merrimack by Vermont castings. Any option I go with will have a full SS liner.

I'll be installing it all, unless they do free installation.

Been waiting for the weather to warm enough that I feel comfortable doing a final cleaning of the flue.
I'll empty ashes, and call it done.
I may put a screen or something on the cap to keep birds out.

"I may put a screen or something on the cap to keep birds out." ... reminds me of the 1/2" mesh screening Dad had installed on the fireplace chimley at the farm to keep bats out of there.

Yep, had a bird in the pipe, then in the stove for 2 days. Kept hearing a scratching sound from.....somewhere, then found out it was in the stove.
Luckily, no fires, and I got him out and set him free.
Poor guy flew outta' my hand like a bat outta' he.......ck.

You may be a little late on the bird screen, they should be in your living room with you by now.

I've noticed a bird that keeps flying away from somewhere near the cap for at least a couple weeks. However, the last time I pulled the pipe etc., I found nothing.
I may still have time...........and the stove door is closed.

Congratulations...you'll have to post some pics when you get it home. I interacted with both mike and penny via phone and email but never got to meet them. They seemed very nice with everything they helped me with.

Had the stove all cleaned out and the glass cleaned up pretty spiffy then the pool pump broke a fitting between the filter and pump which is on the side of the house where the fireplace chimney is. Pumped about 4,000 gal. out before I caught it (lucky I was home and didn't pump all 28,000 gal out). Some found it's way into the fireplace and then into the house somehow so when we had some cold evening I fired back up to dry out. So now I will clean out again and sweep the chimney...also want to pull the cat and have a look, second year with the new stove.

It's a really good thing you were home when all that flooding happened. Glad the damage was minimal

yeah the company is about 110 miles from house mostly interstate I think we are both 5 minutes from exits great.. Even though I knew I wanted one it was good to see it. In short Woodstock know and excels at customer service and friendliness. I was picking it up and finish paying for it.. I mentioned a corner installation and she was don't you want a rear heat shield? I thought I had one with works.. 58 bucks and they put it on and repackaged. that's knowing your product..now to get it home... pics coming..

Thanks for the input Pappy. Just an FYI, I put a condar cat probe in this past season and it wasn't exactly what I was looking for after it was installed. The probe had to be bent to fit around the carriage and the tip just made it to the top of the cat but not in quite far enou to get a good reading.
My thoughts this season coming is to get a thermocouple with a digital reader so I can get a more accurate sense of temps at the cat. I also use a condar stovepipe probe and a condar surface thermometer. Right now I'm relying on the stovepipe probe to engage the cat.
